pleghmy cough - UPDATED!
Talia has a little bit of a phleghmy (sp?) cough all of a sudden. She isn'tacting sick otherwise. She is playful and sleeping well.
I have a Dr. appt. friday for her. Doyou thinkI can try to stick it out and see how she is the next day or so - or would you call the dr. and bring her in earlier?
eta: I know there is infant decongestant...is there infant cough med too?

Re: pleghmy cough
I would hold off until friday unless she gets significantly worse or seems like it's painful for her when she coughs. I wouldn't give her any meds without the ped's okay though. Use the saline drops and boogie sucker often and put her to bed with the humidifier on in the meantime.

Re: pleghmy cough
Claire has had the exact same thing for the past 2 weeks. Its either a little congestion or a pleghmy cough. She is totally fine otherwise. I kept thinking it will go away but now I am going to just bring to the doctor tomorrow for piece of mind. I have been using the Little Noses saline drops to help break it up, which does help and you can give it to a baby any age. I also give her the Pedicare cough and decongestant which helps too, but she is 13 months, Im not sure if Talia is too young for that..Hopefully it goes away quickly!

Re: pleghmy cough
I would hold off - Alex has had a pleghmy cough off and on for weeks now, actually, ever since she went into daycare. I asked the doc about it and he said it's totally normal. You can help ease the discomfort by letting her sleep with her head elevated and using a humidifier.
Edited to add - our Pediatrician told us that there's no reason to worry unless she has a fever or starts behaving unusual (i.e. super lethargic or cranky). If she has the same general personality, and no fever, no worries. I don't think the decongestent's can be used on babies this young though...

Re: pleghmy cough
Well - in the past hour she got very fussy. I took her temp - it's a 99.5, after taking her temp. I picked her up and she threw up three times...so off to the dr. I go.
I suspect she threw up from the cough - and she doesn't have a stomach virus or anything - but I just want to be sure.

Re: pleghmy cough - UPDATED!
Yes I would definitely take her to the Dr at that point! Although 99.5 is not really a fever if taken rectally. Good luck!!

Re: pleghmy cough - UPDATED!
I'm back from the doc. THey said her chest is clear (which was my primary concern since my DH had bronchitis a few weeks back) He said it is a bad cold from teething! He gave me a percription for cough med. so hopefully she will feel better soon.
