plumber price question...

What would you expect to pay a plumber to install a freestanding gas range? We had a plumber out to do it because we needed to change the size of the small pipe that connects to the stove (very cheap part) and then hook up the stove.

The whole thing took 30-45 mins and he charged us $250 before tax.

Is that reasonable or is this guy expensive? It sounded high to me, but I honestly have NO idea what a plumber should cost. (I'm willing to pay for good work, but I am trying to get a feel for whether this price was right...)

to me it sounds pretty high..but i usually am bad at that stuff considering i dont use them much..that is probably why they are so high..Chat Icon

Re: plumber price question...

Home Depot would have installed it for free, but for this pipe issue -- b/c we replaced an older stove, they had to take off one piece of piping and put on a smaller one. My DH would have done it himself, but they didn't have the right sized piece in HD. (Piece costs $3 - 5.)

Like I said, this could very well be the going rate for plumbers -- it just seemed high to me.
