plz recommend place for 2-3 day vacation with 3 month old and 2 year old.
and don't say the backyard! 
dh and i NEED to get away but all we can really do is a mini vacation (we used to do the carribean every summer but haven't since 1/08. )
i'm looking for something:
~2-4 hour drive tops
~pool
~day activities for my super active toddler
~not too expensive (we'd probably have to get 2 connected rooms, microwave and fridge.)
i'm thinking MAYBE sesame place again but i'm worried about my baby in park w/ the heat.
thanks for any suggestions!

How about Mystic, CT? There's a Hyatt Place there and they have really nice suite-type rooms, so you may not even need to get 2 rooms. We stayed at one in Baltimore and we loved it.
You can try to do a search...I saw some old posts from EmmaNick from when she took her kids there.

Montauk definitly.. short drive great beaches.. when we go there i don't even feel like i'm on long island anymore.. my kids ALWAYs have a great time there on the beach!
otherwise, Lake George? you could stay at the indoor water park, maybe shoot up to Niagra falls for a day or so?
Hershey Park, Sesame Place, Dutch wonderland?

Mystic Ct ( perfect for that age!) Seaport, Aquarium, shopping. 2 days is plenty of time though to do everything
Lancaster PA ( although about 4 hrs+ away , a TON to do)- Dutch Wonderland, Sesame Place, Starsburg Railroad and Choo Choo Barn, Crayola Factory , Longwood Gardens, Childrens Musuem are all in the general area.

Mystic is fun, they have the Aquarium and the Seaport and I think it's a short drive to the beaches. The Hyatt Place like someone else mentioned is great. Huge rooms, fridge and I believe a microwave.

no microwave, but I agree the hotel was awesome! Huge rooms! They do have microwaves downstairs though in the kitchen area I think?

I love Montauk (I mean, really, how could you not ) but I don't know that it fits what the OP is looking for. There aren't a ton of activities for a toddler and the beach can be hard with two little kids. Also, the hotels/motels may not really meet the criteria.
I would think Mystic, or even the Jersey Shore (b/c the boardwalks are fun)

I want to go away now after reading this. I second Montauk. I like the fact that your'e still on the Island but the drive out and atmosphere will make you feel like you've left the state.
I would research some family friendly hotels near the lighthouse or recreational parks. I would do a 2 nighter, visit the lightouse which I know has a large open field where you can bbq picnic tables are there too. There is also another park area near there you can visit. Hit some local towns, get some ice cream okay....now I'm going to have DH take me out there soon....
DH and I also visited lake george which is very family friendly. There is lots to do there at this time. It is a long drive though but if you don't mind that I would research it as well.lake george

We went to see Thomas at the Strasburg Railroad and then to Dutch WOnderland and had a gret time. There are a bunch of other things to do in the area also.

Last year we went to the Hamptons for 3 days. We rented a little cottage and they had a pool on the facility. We are in Nassau and it took us a bit over 1 hour to go there. You are not far from Riverhead (splish splash, aquarium). We had a picnic at one of the South Fork vineyard. We went to Sag Harbor. Thats' about 45 minutes from Montauk.
It was very relaxing.

we took my 8 month old just memorial day weekend , it was great!!! The Hyatt is really nice and newly renovated
