Pneumonia Part II - Update with question on bottom.
Robbie - always following in his father's footsteps - has pneumonia in both lungs.
We took both boys to the doctor on Thursday after Rob was diagnosed with pneumonia on Tuesday. The doctor said they were fine - coughs and snuffles - but otherwise okay. They said to let them know if there was any fever.
Friday he got sent home from school because he developed a fever - 100.2. That night it rose to almost 102. Saturday he woke up with 102.4 - and I called the doctor. I asked if I should bring him in and they said it is up to me to decide if I should wait out the weekend or bring him in. He was acting normally and his fever had gone down to 99.8 - so I decided to wait.
MISTAKE.
His arterial temperature was 103.3 on Sunday night.
So he's on antibiotics - which may or may not work. We're praying they do work and that Noah doesn't get sick next.
It's been a great November so far.

Re: Pneumonia Part II - Update With A Question
Thank you ladies for your well wishes and good thoughts. I hope you will help with a question..
I tend to be overly nervous about things... I am aware of this. I should be kept away from WebMD and everything like it at all cost.
REGARDLESS - I am very nervous. Pneumonia in both lungs sound very serious. And the fact that 'he may or may not' respond to the meds she gave him has me extremely edgy.
She gave him a 5 day cycle of Azithromycin. Rob didn't ask HOW long we should wait to call her if he wasn't responding or what the signs are that we would look for to indicate that he is on the road to recovery. He had a temp again last night of about 101. Not as high as it had been - but still a fever. Should I consider that to mean he's getting better?
I have no desire to go to work. I just want to stay home and snoogle with my boy.

Double lung is significant, but it's worse in the elderly due to age and other health factors. Kids are pretty resiliant adn can recover fast, but if left untreated they can get VERY sick. If he still has a fever today or tomorrow I woul,d call back. The general rule is to give antibiotics 2-3 days to kick in. Lots of fluids and encourage him to cough up whatever he can. Good luck!
