Does anyone know how much it costs to open one?

Re: P.O. box
I think they're like 12 a month. Maybe even less.

Re: P.O. box
For the smallest one, I think it is about $50 a year. I got one the next size up and I think I paid about $95 for the year.
ETA: After seeing the other posts, I am thinking maybe each branch sets their own prices?

Re: P.O. box
It depends on the size. This LINK should help.

Re: P.O. box
The price I think depends on the size of box you choose but in Smithtown we pay 160.00 for either 6 months or a year I cant remember. But they give you the option to pay every six months or pay a yearly fee.

for those who have P.O. boxes:
do you find them useful, or a PITA to have to go check them all the time??
what are the advantages to having one??

I have one right near where I work. I find it convenient because I can stop in on my way to work everyday. I got one because 1.) our apt. has such a tiny mailbox that both of our mail wouldn't fit in there most of the time.
2.) We can't get packages at home during the day, and there is no one there that I trust to take them for us. If the carrier just left it, I am afraid it would get stolen. You can't send everything to a P.O. box, but many things I order, or packages friends and family send to us, can be delivered to the P.O. Box.

DH & I have one and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it because it's near where he works so he's the one that has to pick up the packages.
We live in a building and it's hard to have anything larger then a catalog/magazine delivered. Anything that won't fit in our mailbox goes to the supers office which is like a black hole. They once held a FEDEX package (we weren't expecting anything) for two weeks simply because they forgot to let us know it was there.

Re: P.O. box
I pay $35 every 6 months....
I got it at first because I moved in with FH and his family and didnt want my mail getting mixed with his families or lost... i was also driving by that post office every day for work... but now i drive a different way to work and i find it a real PIA... i only check it once every week or so... i forget a lot... and the hours of our Post Office arent the best... once we move into our house I am going back to good old regular mail box mail!!

Re: P.O. box
Ours is a "medium" size and is $36 per year.
We have one because the USPS mail carrier does not deliver to our house, so if I wanted the smaller box it would be free of charge.
At first I missed getting mail everyday, but now with the 2 tons of junk that arrives, its just as well I get it when I feel like getting it!
I also have a smaller one for work related items since I work at home and want to keep it separate. Thats $24 a year.
