POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN NJ
my DD is 2 1/2 and I got her her own ticket. The ride is about an hour and 20 minutes so totally worth the $. My 2 1/2 year old would not want to sit on my lap for that long. We do the one in Essex CT.
FYI- it will probably be hard to find tickets by now, at least for weekends

Re: POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN NJ
I bought tickets to the CT one, but I believe it's sold out now. They went on sale August 2nd. Most places under 2 qualify for lap (some are under 1). Older than that, and they will make you buy a ticket.

www.essexsteamtrain.com
go under the link "north pole express"
but like a pp said i think they are sold out since they went on sale on the 2nd of this month....so the wknds in late november and all of december are pretty much sold out but i think the early/mid november wknds are still available if you're willing to go that early
and of course some week days are still available if you're available to go during the week
good luck

Re: POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN NJ
The NJ ones are almost all sold out too...they only have the last train ride of the day available for most dates.

Are they both the same?
From what I've read the NJ one does the actual Polar Express story and songs (which is why I chose that one b/c my son is obsessed) the CT one does something similar, but not exactly ........
I haven't done either yet.

No, and I chose CT so we can just take the ferry and not deal with NYC traffic. Here is a page with some pics and info about the CT one
http://www.sassymouth.net/blog/archives/tag/north-pole-express
They DO offer a daytime one, and tickets for that go on sale in September I think? It's call the Santa Special

POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN NJ
the CT one does more Christmas song singing and stuff and the NJ one they actually read the story. My kids are too young to sit through or care about the story being read so the CT works better for us. HTH!

POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN NJ
Would either of these be good for a 16-17 month old boy?

If he likes Santa. I know that age can be tricky with the fear of the big guy.
