politics and religion
this is what causes a thread to be locked. can we discuss anything political without the thread being pulled or just locked?

I think it is because there are just so many people with so many different opinions/views on many levels.......that it ends up being an unnecessary "argument" sort of speak.......and gets WAY out of hand.
Thats why I feel they get locked anyway........I could be wrong?

it makes me crazy...honestly...
I don't see why the thread got pulled. I mean I think there was the point at which people were thinking others were c alling them racist, which is a problem,
but the fact that the thread turned from the original topic to a discussion about the times we live in is fine. We SHOULD discuss these things.

I grew up in a country where these were the two topics NEVER publicly discussed. I know we have freedom of speach etc., but you will never see me posting on those threads.

nope cannot discuss it...2 ppl of the same religon probably cannot agree on politics. AND 2 ppl of the same party (independent, green, republican, democrats, etc..) probably cannot agree on religon!

I think for whatever reason, people become emotionally involved in these topics. I see many people ignoring facts (on both sides of an issue) because they worry about how things affect them personally. I think what begins as a debate or a discussion escaltes into people taking sides and trying to convince those who disagree that they are wrong.
JMHO.

i think in this day and age we need to be aware of what goes on around us. and i thought that is what these boards were for.
but i agree that there are so many opposing viewpoints, that it becomes difficult to discuss certain issues
