Posted by jgl I buy snacks because many of my Kindys come with nothing and are hungry
It is so nice that you do that. The thought of kids sitting in school hungry makes me feel so bad. You really do a lot for your students! They are lucky to have you!

I always give to the class gift and than we do our own I always feel like the teachers go above and beyond and I like to give something extra to them. I give at Holiday time and than again at the end of the year. I don't feel pressure to at all. Last year I was class mom and most of the class contributed to the class gift and about 1/2 of those kids also gave the teacher another gift on their own.
Same. And I don't parade it around like here ya go! Here is the extra gift I got you

Re: Poll - End of year teacher gifts
This is DS's first year of school so I had to ask a lot of gifting questions on the parenting board. It does add up and I guess I give more than I would like because I want to make sure I don't come across as cheap to his teachers. I did holiday gifts, teacher appreciation, moving up, and now end of year. He loves going to school and I appreciate everything they do for him, so I don't mind gifting. I just wish I could afford to give what some of the other parents give.

You didn't put an option about buying a gift b/c you want to.
Honestly, its tough, I hate it honestly, on one hand I want the teachers to feel appreciated. On the other, by the time you add everyone up for the end of the year time, and the Christmas time, its a significant expense and headache to come up with gifts for everyone. bus drivers, reading teachers, PT, OT, sunday school, et al.
We're in kindergarten, so its also tough to know who you're "supposed" to get something for and who is really optional.
For instance, bus driver... IMHO, why am I doing this? but if everyone else is.... I don't want to be the douche who doesn't.
It wsa easier in my old office, there were 5 admins, they collected $$$ from the managers and partners, it was pooled and given to them for the Holidays. It was enough you didn't feel like you needed to do any more and it was appreciated.
I actually think the bus driver is one of the most important people in my daughters life. She drivers her to and from school and keeps her safe. I'm always happy to give the bus driver a thank you and a gift.

Re: Poll - End of year teacher gifts
OMG I feel SOOOO much pressure to give a gift!
I feel horrified that if it's not up to scuff. This year we were not up to par. Worse, she moved to Florida. She got jewelry and scarfs, tote bags, gift cards, etc. AJ gave her a hand made 3D flower card.
It was just what we could do.
