its not about security, its about her not wanting to stop and refuel 
then get her a bigger plane that can go nonstop from Washington DC to Cali - but it doesnt need to be Air Force One - she doesnt need a bedroom, kitchen, etc. THAT is the true waste of taxpayer $$.
She offered to fly commercial bc she knew they would say she couldnt bc of security, typical politician!

let me restate - I agree she should have security on the plane - but I dont think people are mad about that - its the fact that she wants a swanky plane - like Air Force One.

My dad spent 20 years as a budget officer for the Air Force, and the cost of security when then have to stop and refuel for a high profile security risk is astronomical. Even when they stop on a base, because most bases have civilians employed there and there is always a minimal security threat. Nobody asked for Air Force One to be available to her, they asked for a military transport that was able to fly non stop coast to coast to limit security risks.

Just wanted to add that as a former CA resident, I don't think Pelosi would ask for a "swanky" plane. I just don't think it is her way of doing things.

agreed! I dont know enough about her, but in the articles I read it appears that she was tring to get a bigger plane to transport family, consituents, etc....
but she does deserve a secure nonstop way to fly from cali to dc.
