Poll: For the Pro-Choice bunch
I am curious about something. Although I am pro-choice I only feel that unless something extreme (rape, incest, risk to mother etc) abortions should only happen within the 1st Trimester.
Just curious to see what you think.
It's Tuesday- so no please. Just want opinions.

Not a fan of anything after the first tri unless there is some kind of extreme issue (i.e. mom's life in danger.)

Agreed. I think if you are going to go the abortion route for whatever reason- you should make the decision and get it done ASAP. It's a lot less risky to your health that way as well.

Re: Poll: For the Pro-Choice bunch
1 & 2nd are more acceptable to me then 3rd but i am not against any choice a person would like to make. It is not my decision nor should it be my business what someone would like to do to their body.

Re: Poll: For the Pro-Choice bunch
I would not want to dictate to anyone at what point in their pregnancy they can and can not get an abortion.
That being said, I've never been pregnant, but I can't imagine having one after the first trimester.

After that, wouldnt you just have to deliver via c-section or vaginally anyway? Is there even a such thing as third trimester abortions, god I hope not.

I may not be a fan of anything in the 3rd, but I will say that each situation is different and would not make a decision for anyone else!

Re: Poll: For the Pro-Choice bunch
A lot of clinics only go up to 14 wks - which is technically 2 wks into the 2nd trimester.
I myself was 13 wks 5 days when I had one.
Seems that most clinics use 14 wks as the latest they will go, so I would say no later than that unless the woman's health is in danger.

I agree. I used to think 3rd tri abortions were for people who just decided late that they didn't want the baby. I took a contemporary women's health class and learned that third tri abortions are really only given in 3 situations: 1) fetus is already dead , 2) fetus is "not compatible with life", 3) mother's life is in danger, and NOT as birth control. I am OK with 3rd tri abortions in those situations and do not think a woman should be FORCED to put her life in danger, or continue with an unviable pregnancy. legislation banning third tri abortions really just blocks the woman's right to choose in those 3 situations

Agreed. But honestly I don't see the 2nd situation as an "abortion" - it's not getting rid of an unwanted pregnancy.

Re: Poll: For the Pro-Choice bunch
Pro choice with 1st trimester.
Anything after that I think it should only be because of the mother's health, medical condition of the baby
I am NOT in favor of 3rd trimester "abortion" unless it is known that the baby life would be of suffering and death if brought to life.
I think most cases of 2nd and 3rd trimester abortion are usually of other reason that not wanting a baby and are usually because of both medical condition for the mother and baby.

early 2nd trimester for fetal diagnosis "not compatible with life"
This is the elephant in the room that no one likes to talk about. So if a woman goes through her routine testing during pregnancy and discovers that her baby will be born dead or will die within days of birth, is the 2nd trimester abortion then allowed?
I pray to God that I never have to make a choice like that but I am glad that the option still exists for woman who are stuck in that untenable situation.

Currently, yes. As I know two people who have terminated a pregnancy for reason not compatible with life.

I say anytime...I don't like when rights issues start getting defined by margins, tends to lead to more and more restrictive measures being allowed in.

Re: Poll: For the Pro-Choice bunch
I'm not a fan of abortions (really, is anyone?), but I feel, "Not my body, not my choice".
I support the right to have an abortion at any time. I also support guidelines though that make third tri abortions available only when the mother or fetus's life is in danger.
