Re: Poll- Which steakhouse??
It sounds weird, because it's a 'chain' steakhouse, but I prefer Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.
They put a butter sauce on their steaks and well... anything with butter is yummier.
Also, its nice that it is a short drive away, and reservations are not months in advance.

Re: Poll- Which steakhouse??
I said Blackstones. I've never been there, but my dad has on several occassions (his boss's FIL is Sbarro and they own it, so company lunches are held there on occasion). He's said he's never had steak like that before and the wine list was out of this world.

Re: Poll- Which steakhouse??
Would you be willing to go in to the city?
If you are willing then I would recommend Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse. The food is excellent.

Re: Poll- Which steakhouse??
Here's my feelings on the steakhouses:
Abel Conkins...Good but not what it used to be. I think there are much better steak houses for the price.
Blackstones...Very good and very expensive. I didn't think the steak was as good as it should have been. For what they charge, it should have been the most fabulous steak I have ever had and it wasn't.
Rothman's is very good and my favorite out of your choices.
Although I have yet to eat there, Prime in Halesite has gotten fantastic reviews. It overlooks Huntington Harbor and probably offers the best atomsphere out of all the steakhouses you listed.

Re: Poll- Which steakhouse??
I haven't been to any of the above, but I went to Sagamore a few weeks ago. It was very good, but when I found out it was owned by the Scotto's I vowed never to go back.
Try Prime in Huntington Harbor or Teller's in Islip, I have heard great things about both.
I have also been to Jimmy Hays in Island Park and it was amazing, really.

Agree completely. I also just ate a Morton's last week (in the city) and while it was ok, it wasn't great. I have never been disappointed in Rothman's.

Re: Poll- Which steakhouse??
I personally love Abel Conklins. BEsides the food being amazing - I love that each entree comes with your choice of two sides - a potato and a vegetable. DH and I go there - we usually split an appetizer, get the porterhouse for two and a couple of cocktails and the bill is less expensive than Rothmanns, Blackstone, etc....and mainly because you don't have to order $8 plates of french fries ;)
All in all, Abels is great and it's nice and cozy -

Re: Poll- Which steakhouse??
Although I like Prime (I go there for drinks more than food), I wouldn't define it as a steak house. The food was good, small portions though and the service was "eh".
I do like Rothmann's, but they oversalt their steaks (and that's coming from a salt whore. )
My sis and her FH are huge "foodies" and although they live in Huntington Village, they always end up at Rothmann's.

Jimmy Hays in Island Park - the porterhouse for two is amazing! They also have this gorgonzola cheese bread that we get as an appetizer - it's to DIE for!

Peter Lugers. One in Great Neck and one in Brooklyn. I like Brooklyn better for some reason. Both don't take credit cards.

I love Peter Lugers. Also, if you're willing to go into the city, Old Homestead Steakhouse is fantastic.

If you want to go to Jersey go to the Chart House. It blows all the ones listed above away.
