Polyp removed?
I'm going next week to have a polyp removed thats on my uterus.
The nurse said that I will have pain(cramping and discomfort) for about 24 hours after the procedure (I'm asleep for it)
Anyone ever have to get this done? How bad is it, and what should I expect in terms of pain?

Re: Polyp removed?
I had a polyp in my uterus and they just did a D & C. Is that what you are having done?
My doctor explained a polyp to me as just like a skin tag.

If I remember correctly they basically suck out the polyp I'm asleep during it and I think hes also scraping a little of the lining? What exactly does a D & C consist of?

Re: Polyp removed?
With a D & C they scrape out the lining of the uterus.
I've had it done twice and felt fine afterwards - but just groggy and tired from the anesthesia. I hardly had any bleeding of cramping.
Last time I had it done they used a hystoscope (spelling?) so they could see exactly what was going on in there.
Don't worry - it really was nothing.

I just did quick google search on D&C. I read something about a scissor going in there during this? Whts the hystoscope?

Re: Polyp removed?
I don't know abou the scissor - I thought they more like "shaved" it.
They hystoscope is just a scope/camera they use so they can get a look in there.

Re: Polyp removed?
I had no side effects at all from the D & C - but now that I think about it, I think I started to bleed more a couple of days after - but that was because I didn't take it easy (hard to do that with 4 kids). Just do what they say and take it easy for a couple of days - - no heavy lifting or staying on your feet too much. The worst part for me was just being groggy, headachey and tired from the anesthesia.
Don't be nervous! The anticipation definitely worse than the procedure!

Re: Polyp removed?
I had this done recently. It is very quick. You have menstrual like cramps afterward. I had slight cramps on and off the next few days, but was out and about the next day. You will be glad to have it over with.
