poop control issues/using laxatives
my DD is 11.5 months and started eating solids at 10 months old, before that she was EBF (i still nurse 4 times a day) when we started giving her solids she went from pooping everyday to once a week. then one day she had horrible constipation. now she doesn't go... took her to a ped gastroenterologist and the dr said my dd is literally holding it in. its a control issue i have to give her a laxative (little tummy's) EVERYDAY. the dose is hard to chase, one day she won't go and the next day the same dose will give her diarrhea. its horrible we have tried prune juice, pear juice, fletchers castoria, benefiber, ex lax... she won't take any of it... please can someone help?

Re: poop control issues/using laxatives
DD is 7 months and gets constipated with food. We do some pear juice in her bottle 2x a day (only about 1/2 oz). But, what I have found works is making sure she eats prunes or pears for breakfast at least every other morning. I go easy on the bananas. I might even stop the juice b/c I don't want her getting hooked on sweet drinks. How often are you giving the less constipating foods?

Re: poop control issues/using laxatives
My daughter is on Miralax. She doesn't taste it. She has been on it for a long time and it works. She now is back to pooping everyday. Before the Miralax it was once every 7-8 days and painful

Re: poop control issues/using laxatives
my DS had similar issues....we first tried Miralax per our gastro...then he started to poop, but explosive once a day. They switched us to milk of magnesia. It has been a miracle for us. He goes now 3 times a day and is comfortable going. He doesn't strain and it has helped him sleep better as well. I got the Phillips cherry flavored and he LOVES it. He opens his mouth wide when I bring the dropper to his mouth. We started with a high does of 5 ml 2x a day...now we do 2 ml 2x a day. Dr says it is perfectly safe. I would recommend a medicine syringe to get it in the mouth quick. Also you may want to try glycerin suppositories (sp?)...they just helped know how to push and relived the uncomfortable pressure until he was going regulary. Good luck!

Re: poop control issues/using laxatives
DD had the same problem...I don't know if it was a control issue or not. But we just gave her foods that were easier to pass......oatmeal cereal, carrots, pears, veggies....stayed away from sweet potatoes, bananas, and rice cereal. And I gave her Karo Syrup in her bottles. It helped a little. But jarred prunes worked the best.

Re: poop control issues/using laxatives
just in case you didn't already, you should probably tell your ped that she requires a daily laxitive... it likely isn't a good thing to take a strong medicine like that daily....
I would try to sneak fiber in any way possible.... lots of broccoli, spinach, fruit... whatever way she'll eat it.... juice, solid food... mix it into stuff if need be.....
good luck
