Re: Popcorn ceiling question
I know you first have to find out if their is asbestos in the ceiling.
Then you Have to hose the ceiling off and Then take a scraper and scarpe off the pop corn.
I have seen it done, but have not done it myself.
You gotta make sure you cover everything Scott

Re: Popcorn ceiling question
Get some pushpins and hang plastic from cieling to make yourself a little spray booth. Mist the ceiling with water and then scrap it off.

Re: Popcorn ceiling question
I am calling someone to do it- its a big, messy, job. Most professional painters will do it.

Re: Popcorn ceiling question
I heard that's a real PITA to get rid of. My brother had that in his place when he bought it in the his livingroom. He ad a painter scrape and paint it. It's looks alot better. Your better off hiring a painter that will do it!

Re: Popcorn ceiling question
We just had the ceiling replaced in our living room (because of a leak, not just to get rid of the popcorn) and now we want to get rid of the popcorn ceiling in the rest of the downstairs and our contractor told us it is a very messy job and you wouldn't want to be in the house when it's done. I hate it, but I think I'll live with it since we're not planning to be here for long. I don't think it's something I would want to do myself.

Re: Popcorn ceiling question
It's on one of the ceilings in the upstairs bedroom of the cape that we're buying. The ceiling in the other bedroom across the hallway isn't popcorn...I don't know how to describe it but it's like someone took that spackle tool and made circles with it. And I don't like that either.
These 2 rooms will be my son's bedroom and playroom. I just wanted plain ceilings...
Now the next question...WHY is there a popcorn ceiling? It must be cracked...

Our whole first floor ceilings are like that. They are not popcorn ceilings, but they look as though they have sand mixed in with the paint to give it texture and then it was swirled on. Made it a HUGE PITA when we had to repair a crack in the ceiling, it was almost impossible to paint over it and get it to that same consistency/design. Why oh why is that done!!??

Re: Popcorn ceiling question
We removed our popcorn from the ceiling of our living room and the archway to the upstairs. What a b!tich of job. First we scraped it with a spackle knife and then sand, sand, sand....it was such a messy job, but now that it's done, it was all worth it. DH now wants to take the ceiling down and cathedral the living room...I was like WHAT...we did all that for nothing.
