Do you know any members of that temple? They have a certain amount of say in how temple property is used and if they threaten to pull their memberships, they can really influence the situation.

yes, my neighbor is a member of the temple. she is the one who actually informed the school about the cell tower going up, not the jewish center, unfortunately. according to her and another person i spoke to, the majority of the members are not residents of the community (alot of them travel from other areas) - so i'm not too sure they'd be willing to pull their memberships.

They may have to vote on the issue but I'm totally guessing here.

Ok, I got a copy of the letter....but didn't get much more info than I've already posted. She did mention that there will be a meeting at the school, but is not sure when, or what time. She will let me know once she find out the details.
Here is the letter: (you can copy and paste)
May 1, 2007
Marcie Platkin, Executive Director Mr. Steven Schneider Ms. Beth Berman Members of the Board of Trustees North Shore Jewish Center 385 Old Town Road Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776
Dear Ms. Platkin, Mr. Schneider, Ms. Berman, and Members of the Board of Trustees:
This letter will serve to advise you that we strongly oppose the installation of a 90 foot cell tower in OUR community.
We are concerned about the potential health risks that may be associated with cell towers, and do not wish to be involuntarily subjected to the constant exposure of radio frequency emissions that result from cell towers.
Additionally, a 90 foot cell tower is completely inconsistent with the residential nature of the adjacent Norwood Avenue and immediate surrounding community, which includes an Elementary School located DIRECTLY across the street from your property.
We respectfully request that you reconsider your decision to lease property to T-Mobile for the purpose of installing a 90 foot cell tower and required necessary equipment.
Sincerely,
Cc: Robert Dotson, President and CEO of T-Mobile State Assemblyman Steve Englebright Deputy Presiding Office Legislator Vivian Viloria-Fisher Town Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld

We just signed this petition last week. It makes me so angry to think that this is a religious community organization that is OK'ing this.
