Re: Portfolio organization
wanted to bump this, since there's a posts asking about portfolios.
also wanted to ask--
to those that havent taught full time yet, but are looking, do you have a portfolio prepared and ready to go (and take it on interviews?).
SO many people have told me not to bother, they never look at it (but just that one time that they DO ask !)
so my portfolio's not completely put together. IS it really necessary?
Teachers/administrators- whats the real word on having a portfolio?? (elem level, no teaching experience except subbing).

Re: Portfolio organization
what about student teaching?
when I changed certification - all I had was my internship and the plans I had made for classes.
I was never asked for my portfolio, but always offered an electronic one and most were intrigued by that.

i've been at my current school for 4 years now and i was in the city schools for a year before that, so basically, i haven't been on an interview since 2004 and 2005 and NOT once was i ever asked to submit a portfolio, or could they look at my portfolio. i always took it with me, but it wasn't anything special. basically, it was just my transcripts, certs., letters of recommendation and some samples of student work in a binder. i am kinda of glad they didnt' ask to see it!!
at all my interviews, everyone on the panel had a photocopy of my resume and cover letter and drew all their questions for me from there.
again, it's been awhile, so i don't know if they are the new thing to do on interviews. if the university where you are getting your certification is making you do one, it might mean that that's what they look for now. i don't know...
