Possible early m/c? So confused :(
Hey ladies, Im very upset and confused and was hoping someone may be able to help… This was our 4th month TTC. I used OPKS and was also temping, so am pretty confident that I O’ed on CD 17 and we timed BD very well around that date. At 11 DPO I tested and got BFN. When I still hadn’t gotten AF by 15 DPO, I tested again and got a very faint positive. I then bought a digital test and tested the next morning, 16 DPO, and got a BFP. This was on Friday and we flew to Chicago that afternoon to attend a wedding this weekend. I felt fine all day Friday and Saturday. On Sunday afternoon, I noticed some brown spotting, but didn’t think much of it. By that evening, I was getting bad cramps and started noticing more red spotting when I wiped. I was scared but being Sunday night, there wasn’t much I could do but wait it out. So I put a pad in and went to sleep. Monday morning, I woke up and was bleeding heavily, including what looked like clotted blood. I went to see my doctor that afternoon and when she examined me, she said it looked like a regular period. I really don’t think this is the case due to the timing, the BFPs, the cramps and the clotting, but she didn’t spend much time with me and I left with many unanswered questions. She sent me to get an intravaginal ultrasound that afternoon and to get blood work done to test Betas. I did the first test Tues morning and am going for the second tomorrow (48 hours later). After that I will meet with her again to discuss the results. Does this sound like an early m/c? Will she be able to tell what happened based on these results? I was bleeding red blood Monday and Tuesday, still with some cramping, but it has slowed significantly today. I am mostly upset bc Im not sure what happened and whether it was a m/c. has anyone been in a similar position? Thanks for listening!

ITs hard to tell if it's a mc but if you took HPT's and got a BFP then you are/were definitely pregnant. Im a little appalled that your Dr was so dismissive, especially since you told her you got BFPs! The betas are what will be able to determine if you are/were. You HCG levels should be anything above 5 to indicate you are pg. If they went up from one day to the next, your pregnancy may be progressing. If they go down, then you likely m/c. I had a chemical pregnancy. So basically, at 20 DPO, I got a BFP (very faint) One week later I went into the ER because of light spotting that turned into a full flow and cramping. Had I not tested, I would have just thought it was a late and heavy period so to us it looks the same but to a Dr there is a difference. I hope this helps and more importantly I hope you're feeling ok and that your dr gives you answers. Feel free to FM me if you need anything. Im not a Dr but your experience sounds a lot like mine

Thanks so much for your response! I was very upset by how my dr handled the situation and now feel like I should find someone else after this! She did mention that it may be a chemical pregnancy so maybe that's it. Either way I don't see how I could be pregnant still after all this bleeding. I guess I just have to wait and see what the beta results are. Did your dr say it was ok to continue ttc right away after your experience? I'm sorry for what you went through, it is truly devastating.

This is almost exactly what happened to me. It was really hard, my doctor told me it was a chemical pregnancy and that I should wait one cycle before trying again. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get more information from your doctor

Im sorry for what you're going though too. My Drs advice was really comforting. He basically told me it's natures why of expelling what would otherise be a very unhealthy fetus. Your body just knows and with a chemical, it's usually just a chromosomal abnormalty... none's fault, it jut happens. Unfortunately it happens often. He told me I could get pg as early asthe next cycle-I know some girls on here have- I wanted to wait a few months to get over what happend and let me body heal. That was in April. We started TTC again in July.. Still waiting for a BFP
Where do you live? I have an excellent Dr in Lake Success that I'd recommend.

Re: Possible early m/c? So confused :(
Thanks everyone for your support. I just had my second blood test this morning so plan to call my doctor later on today to schedule a time to come in and discuss the results. Hopefully I have a better experience with her this time, and if not, I will find someone else. CatNYC- I appreciate the dr rec, but I live in NJ.
I do feel better after hearing everyone's responses....it helps to know that I am not alone. Sounds like it was a chemical and knowing that does help me to move forward.

Unfortunately this sounds a bit like a Chemical Pregnancy.
I've never actually had a chemical, not to my knowledge anyway. It is actually possible to have one and not know it; usually comes as a "late" period.
I'm sorry you are going through this.
I think they will most likely tell you to wait one cycle.... or perhaps even to just go ahead and start trying again since your body took care of everything. I had a mc at 11 weeks and I was told to wait only one cycle.... so I can't imagine it being any longer. I agree with what the PP said about your body's way of knowing something was wrong....
Good Luck. baby dust for you

Re: Possible early m/c? So confused :(
ive had two chemicals. you may have to wait a cycle in between. it depends how high your betas were. thats what they were testing your blood for and thats what will tell them whether it was a m/c or not. chances are that since you started bleeding your beta went down to 0 or is near it. did you use an HPT since you started bleeding? that would tell you whether your beta is low since you already tested positive, if you subsequently tested negative you would know it was going down.
im sorry, chemicals stink...

Yes, I actually tested again this morning for the first time since I started bleeding and got a BFN. Its been a really hard week but I am trying to stay positive. Thanks for your response...I've been a lurker for a long time who rarely posts. I am glad I decided to post about this because it really has helped me to feel better.

Unfortunately its called a chemical pregnancy. Its when you get pregnant but the pregnancy isnt vaible. Im sorry just make sure you go back to your Dr in a week & make sure you are compltely cleaned out. Then after the next menstrual cyle you can try again. Im very sorry i hope things turn out ok.

Re: Possible early m/c? So confused :(
So the doctor's office called me today with my test results and said there was no evidence of pregnancy. She said my HCG leves were below 5 for both tests (first one at 3, second one at 0). I asked if this meant I had a chemical, and she said "well, if that. There was no evidence of pregnancy at all". Now I am more confused than ever! How could I possibly get 2 BFPs with 2 different tests and not have been pregnant? I took the HPTs Thursday and Friday, started bleeding Sunday night, and then took the 2 blood tests on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Is it possible that by then, the HCG levels had already dropped and thats why nothing came up on the blood test? I feel like this doctor thinks I am crazy and made the whole thing up. its upsetting because I know my body and know when something is wrong...besides the BFPs, AF was late and when she came it was clotted, heavy and more painful than normal. All I want is some closure- to figure out what happened so I can move on. I was convinced it was a chemical but now I dont know what to think...

You have to be pregnant in order to have hcg in your system... that only happens after implantation..
it definitely sounds like a chemical...
