Possible IVF Newbie feeling nervous

Well I have had 3 failed IUI and am currently waiting to test after my 4th. The doctor recommends that we move on to IVF which I feel is the best thing as well. (we are dealing with low sperm count) I am so nervous about the whole thing. Mostly I am nervous about giving myself shots and also about the egg retrieval. Can anyone give me incite on what to expect?

Re: Possible IVF Newbie feeling nervous

are you moving to IVF without having done injectables before?
if this cycle is BFN, Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon that it isnt, its prob the best thing to do if you have sperm issues since IUI doesnt do that much for sperm issues. IVF really gives you MUCH better odds.

as far as giving yourself shots, unfortunately, its not a big deal once you get past the first few. the fear is worse than actually doing it. ive been using injectables for over a year now, and since doing IVF and getting pregnant and having clotting issues, ive been giving myself AT LEAST one shot a day, every single day, since October 1st. once you get used to it, you become a pro in no time. the anticipation is WAY worse than the shot itself.

one thing to add though is if you have never done injectables before, it requires MUCH heavier monitoring than clomid and IUIs. you do go to the doctor a lot, have a lot of sonos, and a lot of bloodwork. its all necessary to make sure you're ovaries and hormone levels are where they need to be for a successful ER.

the ER wasnt a big deal for me either. yes, you have to go under anesthesia, but the whole procedure takes less than an hour and i wasnt too uncomfortable from the procedure itself. actually, by that point i was def more excited about the retrieval than nervous about the procedure. after all that work its exciting to see how many eggs they can get!

when i was going from medicated cycles to IVF, i was so nervous and scared. after doing a bunch of injectable cycles prior, moving to IVF wasnt a huge change for me protocol-wise, except there were more meds and a lot higher doses. getting over the mental aspect of moving to IVF was harder than the physical component. but once you accept that its the best choice for you (assuming it is) then you just go through the motions of the drugs and Chat Icon Chat Icon for the best.
