Re: Possibly looking for a new doctor...
I can't recommend a dr. since I am in Nassau but I can say that in the beginning I went every 2 weeks (and got sonos every time) and I saw the in house high risk dr. every other visit just to check in with her. At 26 weeks I ended up with a shortening cervix and had to have an emergency cerclage surgery and since then I now since a different high risk dr. (Dr. Kofinas) for weekly sonos and my regular OB for weekly NST monitoring since 28 weeks. I am currently 35 weeks and at 36 wks I will be at my regular ob 2x/wk until my scheduled section on 4/2 (if I last that long!!).

Re: Possibly looking for a new doctor... ETA more of the story
If you're not comfortable with your current ob, definatley switch. Twins are no joke. A lot of ob's treat them like any other pg but they aren't. Sure, for some people they are but for others, you just never now.
I love my ob and he delivers tons of twins. He was super caring and just a great ob. Dr. Pilliteri in Deer Park. Not sure if that's too far for you. I also went to a high risk - Dr. Kofinas. If I didn't go to the high risk, Dr. Pilliteri would have seen me much more. I went to a high risk because of the twins and because I had preclamsia with my son and I had a clotting disorder. Otherwise, I think Dr. P would have been able to handle it.

Re: Possibly looking for a new doctor... ETA more of the story
Let me tell you a story about my friend who was seen by a Dr at Suffolk who happened to be a friend of the family and ended up to be somewhat of a notorious figure on LI because a patient died in her care.
My friend was pregnant with twin girls. Around 26 weeks she started to feel like crap. She was having diarrhea, cramping in her back and lower stomach and her underwear was always wet. She shared her concerns with her Dr who said, it was "just urine." She never checked her or did any testing.
At 29.5 weeks my friend's dog was whining early in the AM next to her bed going crazy. She got up to let him out and her water broke. Her babies were born that night weighing 2'12 and 3'2. They were in the NICU for months and now are 4 and happy and healthy for the most part. BUT had her Dr took her concerns seriously she probably could have had terbetuline, steroids etc.
When I was PG I was seen in SC where I was living at the time. They saw me once a month after 12 weeks and then every 2 weeks after 30 weeks.
If I were you I would switch Dr's. I LOVED my old OB-Dr Somers at Personal Womens Care in Smithtown.

I would go with your gut if you are no comfortable. My dr. was very cautious while I was pregnant and saw me every 2 weeks. One person commented to me that he saw me too much, but I don't think there is such a thing as being too cautious with twins. 2 babies, placentas etc. is a lot of strain on your body.

Re: Possibly looking for a new doctor... ETA more of the story
Yikes. I think you should find a new practice. I can't recommend one because I am out of state now. I had an SCH, so I was being seen every two weeks until now (16wks)...my next appt. is 4 wks. I was told I didn't need a high risk doc (even with the bleed) because my twins dont share a placenta. So, that may not be a big deal.
But, I really think any doc you are seeing should see you if you aren't feeling right....even if it is just to calm your nerves.
Good luck finding someone!

Re: Possibly looking for a new doctor...
I would yes get a new Dr. I was treating high risk for a few reasons...twins being one of them and I would want much more attention placed on the pregnancy.

My doc is in Nassau.....I delivered at Winthrop. But his name is Dr. Mesbah and he was fantastic.

Re: Possibly looking for a new doctor...
I am also a patient of Dr. Pillitteri and Dr. Kofinas. I love both of them. I am so greatful that Dr. P is my doctor. He recommended that I see Dr. Kofinas b/c of my age (34) and conceived through IVF. It ended up that I had a clotting disorder. You need to go to someone you feel most comfortable with and takes you having twins very seriously not treating it like a single birth. My friend was preg. with twins. She went to a doctor in W. Islip across from Good Sam. Her doc treated her preg. like a regular preg. never sent her to see a high risk doc or never took any extra sonograms. She was told she was having a girl and boy. At 29 weeks she had to have an emergency c/s. She ended up delivering 2 girls. One of her little girls ended up passing the next morning. It ended up she had no internal organs (kidneys, etc). Her doctor claimed that at her 20 week check up they say kidney buds. I feel this could have been avoided if they did more sonos and treated it more than a single birth. Her daughter is now 5.

My doctors were great. They took all my concerns very seriously. I had premature contractions and was hospitalized twice for several days and they put me on bed rest. I was very confident in their care.
The usually deliver at St. Catherines, but will deliver at SB is some cases. They will definitely deliver at SB if you are before 30 weeks (g-d forbid) I am going to definitely try to request SB if I get pregnant again. My friend told me they do regular deliveries there too. Oh yeah, I go to contemporary women's care in smithtown.
ETA: they did not treat me like a singleton pregnancy. I started going every two weeks sooner than a single, and had many sonos and NST. I also have a clotting disorder which they took very seriously. If I called with a concern, they would have me come in right away or go to the hospital if it was off hours.

Re: Possibly looking for a new doctor...
I always stress that if you feel your doctors arent doing what they should you need to switch or, in the least, go on a few consults....
I dont know if you specifically need to see a high risk doctor. I didnt for my twin pregnancy. But my doctors were well versed in handling multiples...
They dont deliver any more so I cant recommend them...
I went to Contemporary Women's Care for DS. They deliver out of SB as well as St Catherines.

Thanks... doesn't have to be high risk. I am seeing my midwives LESS now than I did with my single pregnancy, which I find strange.
I have a few places to check out - thanks everyone for your recommendations!
