Post birth party?
I am not having a shower (im jewish and its not tradition to have one) so Im thinking of having an open-house type of party after the baby is born. Nothing too big-- just come by and meet the baby. How long after the baby is born do you think I should do this? (I am hoping to get some of the things off my registry this way too!)

Re: Post birth party?
We just went to one of these! It was a TON of fun
It was about 3 weeks after the baby was born and at their house. They had lots of food, no cheesy games, everyone got to hold the baby and there were plenty of gifts on the table
GREAT IDEA!

Re: Post birth party?
my sister in law is having one and it will be almost 3.5 months after the baby was born that she is holding it. i personally think this is WAYYYYY too much time after the baby is born (as most things they need, they will have purchased already)....but it's what they're doing.
the people throwing it for her are calling it a 'meet the baby' party....if that helps at all (she's Jewish as well and didn't want ANYTHING baby related prior to the birth).

Re: Post birth party?
My mom is thinking about doing this Labor day weekend (I am due early August). This is my 2nd baby, so she liked this idea better than a shower.

Re: Post birth party?
id think just after the 2 month shots are done...id be paranoid with alot of people picking up the baby early since girls on here said if the baby gets a fever under 3 months then they get a spinal

I am Jewish too, so I will probably not have a shower. I was considering having this type of party as well. Not sure when or how though. I am glad you put this post up.

Just so you know, that while this MAY be true (re the spinal), babies are born with your immunity so they are no totally succeptable (SP) to germs or illness just because they have not had their first shots
just wanted to put that out there

Re: Post birth party?
I am Jewish and my husband is not (Italian - Catholic)...I really don't believe in anything at home before the baby is born either but...my husband was a "surprise" and he is 34 and his sisters are 55 and 48 and his brother is 50 so obviously their kids are much older and I know the whole family is dying to throw a shower. Him and I decided that most likely we can have one but all the stuff has to go to his parents house, nothing in our house except maybe the furniture, like a week or 2 before I am due just so that is all set up....we shall see....I never heard of a party after but that is a good idea !!

DH (reformed) and I are reverse (add in some Irish, Polish & Czech!) so I'll be having a shower.
How soon after would you do a briss or baby naming? I've only been to one briss and it was not too elaborate (cold cut platters in the grandparent's home) and I was the only one who brought a gift. Any chance you can turn those into a larger party? Or are they generally to be more intimate?

The bris will be 8 days after he is born and will be close family alone. I really dont want a ton of people in the house for that!

Re: Post birth party?
We're having a bris for DS at our home, and we had a baby naming at our temple for DD. Nothing separate, although people were in and out of our house for weeks when DD was born. A lot of people brought gifts to the house when they randomly came the first few weeks...the rest mailed or brought to the baby naming. Some did both.
