Post Partum Depression - Anyone here going through this, knows someone who is or has dealt with it?
I had my baby a month early. LO is doing well except that he is having issues with colic.
I would like to find a support group in my town. I need someone to talk to to help me get through this besides DH. Where do I find these groups? Do they help? Would a therpist be better?

I suffered with PPD as well. I spoke with a specialist through the hospital I delivered at and she gave me some information. Try to call where you delivered and see if they have a specialist you can speak with. Also, try www.postpartumny.org. It list support groups and counselors. I also spoke with my OB and he put me on a low dose of zoloft. HTH and know that you are not alone. A lot of women go through this.

sorry you are going through this. Definitely call the hospital you delivered at and ask them if there is a support group. You can also talk to your OB about how to best cope with it.

I had it after my first two babies and so with my third I went on medicine right away. You are not alone, it is quite common and it is COMPLETELY treatable. Call your ob and get a referral to a therapist. Also, there are support groups that can help you- I agree, postpartumny.org is a great organization. Please FM me if you want to talk!

I went through this (and still am) with DD#2. Call your OB, tell him/her what's going on and say you need a referral. Mine gave me a Rx for zoloft to tide me over, and it helped, but not for long, as it was a very low dose. My GP also gave me a Rx for Xanax, but only like 6 pills, and a very low dosage as well.
In the end, therapy and the proper medication combined were miracle workers. It's so hard to deal with, and I completely understand what you're going through. Please call your doctor, and feel free to FM if you ever need to talk. Hang in there! There is help.

Re: Post Partum Depression - Anyone here going through this, knows someone who is or has dealt with it?
my DD was born almost 2 months early and i had a very rough birth and PPD. shes 7months old on wednesday and i still see a social worker. i went no drugs which is still very hard but i personally dont feel comfortable taking antidepressants and nursing although at times i feel like i shoudl take them. but instead ive been seeing a social worker. im only just starting to feel better. it def takes time, especially if you don't take meds. but either way it DOES get better. def talk to your OB they can recommend a place for you to go. LIJ has a program specifically for PPD through Zucker Hillside Hospital in New Hyde Park (i was supposed to go to that one but they didn't take my insurance). the one i go to is through NSUH, its called North Shore Child and Family Guidance in Manhasset. def please make sure you tell your OB and get some help. its hard to come to terms with it, but once you get some help you WILL start to feel better!! please FM ANY TIME!!
