Post Partum... taking the edge off???
I can honestly say thankfully I didn't suffer from severe PPD, however Looking back after I had DD - I probably could have used a little help..... I am currently PG again, and worry that I may experience the same, but now with a 20 month old to tend to.
Obviously, I know that IF I were to feel the same (or worse) I would talk to my doc at that time, but out of curiousity now - do you know what is offerred? therapy? Rx - if so is there a name to research?
TIA

Re: Post Partum... taking the edge off???
I had a very mild case of PPD with DD. I suspect it was more of just baby blues.
DD was 18 months when DS was born. I thought I was "in the clear" but ended up with severe PPD this time around. My OB gave me a RX for Zoloft, but I was extreamly resistent to getting help, so I never filled it. (DS was about 4 weeks old when it hit). When he was 2.5 months old, I asked my OB for a therapist that specialized in PPD. My case was so severe that she didn't think she could treat me and referred me to a therapist that is considered one of the best in the field. When I started with the therapy, I was very resistent to meds for a variety of reasons, but finally gave in.
I am now on Zoloft and take Clonazapan(sp?) The Clonanzapan is to take the edge off. DS is now 5 months old and I am finally coming out of it. I have a long way to go I think because I still extreme meltdowns, but they are less frequent as before.
So, after my long winded response, my best advice is to ask your OB for a RX or a referral to a therapist if you feel like you need treatment.
