Post-pregnancy wedding? Would you go?

DH and I got invited to a wedding 12 days after I am due to give birth. While I would love nothing more than to go, I just don't know that I will feel comfortable because I'm sure I wil still look pregnant, and the "after effects" of giving birth will still be in town. Plus..of course..the MAIN reason..my little baby will be here!!!!!

The ONLY upside is that it is literally 10 minutes from our house..LOL!

I feel bad..but at the same time, I know myself TOO well!! I want to be able to look/feel comfortable in a dress, and I really don't think I will.

These people are not "close" to us. He works with DH. While we appreciate it..I just don't know if we will go.

What to do? Is that mean?

Re: Post-pregnancy wedding? Would you go?

i am having the same dilemma b/c one of my closest friends is getting the married the week after i am due. Depending on when the baby arrives i will prob try to at least go to the ceremony. If she wasn't a close friend i wouldn't even bother at all, not when the baby is so young and i am fresh from having him, but thats just what i think/would do.

Re: Post-pregnancy wedding? Would you go?

Personally, I wouldn't go for a couple reasons-
1-No clue if i would go on my due date or later
2-Wouldn't know what kind of birth I would have or recovery would be like
3-I would be uncomfy still looking pg, dressed up and still probably bleeding

ETA: Especially if they are not close to you, I def wouldn't go to an acquaintance's wedding after the birth of my child. JMO

Re: Post-pregnancy wedding? Would you go?

We are invited to a 70th (or 75th?) birthday party next weekend. We had to RSVP no because A-I could have been in the hospital giving birth/being induced and B-who would we get to babysit our baby? He will be 3 weeks old at the party and the only people we would leave him with right now will be at the party. We could've taken him, but WHY??? We wouldn't really be able to enjoy ourselves and we'd have to keep up with him all night and though i'm not a germ freak, there would be a lot of people wanting to touch him, hold him and kiss him who could be sick and now know it yet.

There's also a family reunion on DH's dad's side the very next day or same day...I can't remember. We aren't attending that either for alll the same reasons.

So I think you are pefectly justified in not going. In fact, people cancelled on our wedding because they gave birth unexpectantly early and obviously we didn't expect a new mom to haul herself to a reception hall days later!Chat Icon

Re: Post-pregnancy wedding? Would you go?

We have a wedding on July 7th - it's one of DH's friends weddings and I really would like to go. Depending on if I have this baby vaginally or by c-section will determine if I go to the wedding or not (also, WHEN I have this baby is another factor)

ETA: I have already explained all of this to the bride and know when she has to give her final headcount in - so I will just let her know by that date whether I will be going or DH will be going solo.

Re: Post-pregnancy wedding? Would you go?

I have a friend's wedding two weeks after my due date. I'm planning on trying to go but, then again, this is my first and I have no idea how I will feel at that point!

He wouldn't go w/out me. Actually he was surprised to see he was invited..they are more locker buddies than anything.

Re: Post-pregnancy wedding? Would you go?

Given the timing and that they aren't a close relation I wouldn't go but I think I'd tell DH to go.

I wouldn't want to stress myself about what I was going to wear. Stupid, I know...but that's probably why I wouldn't go.

I wouldn't go. You really don't know how you'll feel after giving birth. Your boobs will be leaking and you may still be in some discomfort.

Re: Post-pregnancy wedding? Would you go?

I think 12 days after your due date might be too close...like previous posters have said, you might not be comfortable (not to mention you might not be 12 days past giving birth if the baby is late).

We were invited to a wedding 3 weeks after due date, and we're declining since we just don't know how I will be / how the baby will be, etc.

Re: Post-pregnancy wedding? Would you go?

I went to a wedding of a co-worker 2 wks post partum. I just went to the ceremony as my newborn was always on the boob. If I hadn't felt up to it she would have understood.

If you really aren't into going and they aren't close friends/family I would probably pass. If you want to go then I would tell them that you will have to let them know last minute b/c of the uncertainity of when you are going to give birth. They can always add people to their #s last minute, it is taking away they can't do.

I guess we'll have to play it by ear..but of course we have to RSVP by the end of the month. I don't think we'll be missed if we didn't go..there are over 300 people going to this thing...Chat Icon
