Posting resumes on Career sites - Safe or not? Thoughts
It seems that if you do not have your resume out there on such sites like Monster, career builder, etc.. you are less likely to find a job. How safe is your information on these sites? I don't totally trust it, however feel locked into posting my resume on there just to find work. Most recently Monster posted a security update stating that a phishing site was able to access usernames and passwords.
What other options are out there to get your resume noticed by employers other than these sites?

Re: Posting resumes on Career sites - Safe or not? Thoughts
I personally wouldn't do this. I recently got an email from a social work recruiter and they told me that if I posted my resume online through them, my info could be made public through a google search.
I also know my job posts regularly and browses on Careerbuilder so I would never want them to know if I am looking!
I think the best way to find a new job is through networking or pounding the pavement the old-fashioned way and going in to apply to places that you think you would like to work for.

I posted my resume on Monster once and made it so employers could see it. I would get some weird phone calls. I wouldn't do it. I agree with the above poster that networking and sending out resumes and meeting people works just as well.

Re: Posting resumes on Career sites - Safe or not? Thoughts
I've done it and while I got some inquiries I didn't want, I made a lot of contacts. Mostly recruiters who I went and met. About half of them were a waste of time but the other half of them were fine.
I'm administrative so I answered ads for agencies..got tested, had an initial interview..etc..when there was a job that came up I got called and I went.
Doing both things had me interviewing non stop.

Do these sites have any way of blocking your current employer from seeing your resume posted? I would be worried that my current employer would see it.

I have them all set up so they can only see my e-mail address (which I only use for job hunting). Never had any issues.
