My SIL just delivered a healthy beautiful 9lb 10oz baby girl vaginally and the dr. never once mentioned any medical issues or even a c-section. Her delivery was easy too. Her DS was 8. 9.

I also agree that the growth sono's can be off 2lbs, either way. I would try and relax wait as your due date gets closer and see what happens.

My dd measured between 8lb6oz and 8lb12oz at 40w2d, I delivered her vaginally at 41w-she was 8lb4oz. They never brought up a c-section. The sono could be off. My mom delivered my brother vaginally with no problems and he was 9lb2oz.Chat Icon

OMG...seriously...I knew posting here would be the right thing to do. Thank you ALL so much for sharing information and for all the good wishes.

I feel a little more calm today - helps to be home and on bedrest - and feel a little more clear-headed to talk to my doctor. I already printed this post to collect questions and thoughts to help the conversation Chat Icon

I think that what rattles me most is that a year ago I lost a pregnancy and here I am with everyone telling me the baby is healthy...big but healthy and perfect and all I can think is 'I have to protect him.'

Try not to work yourself upChat Icon Speak to your doctor and see what she says. People have big babies all the time so it may not be an issue.

As a side note, I am home all day, so if you need anything, I am around! I will FM you my cell Chat Icon

Re: Posting this here because I need support from mom's with delviery experience

This is what happened to me almost exactly!! My dr said I had a small pelvis early on. (she is not a c section advocate at all) Baby was measuring pretty big but she still wanted me to try vaginally. My fear was the same as yours and I also didn't want to push for 2 hours only to have the c section anyway.

my last NST the baby was "measuring" 9lbs 9oz. and was SIX days late. Dr. induced me. 24 hours later Chat Icon they gave me a csection..baby's head was too big and was swelling my cerix and I wouldn't be able to push him out.

You DEF need to discuss all of your options with your dr. THIS IS YOUR DELIVERY AND YOUR EXPERIENCE!!! Explain your concerns about the shoulder and come up with a "plan" with your dr. (which will go out the window..trust me). They do know what they are doing and if you really advocate for yourself they have to listen within reason of course/

Turned out my son was 8lbs 14oz and 22 inchs..(im 5 foot 1 inch tall)Chat Icon

good luck

ETA: just wanted to add I had a small pelvis!! you may not..you may be able to push our LO out!!

Re: Posting this here because I need support from mom's with delivery experience

I went through something very similar when I was pregnant with Brandon. He was measuring WAY ahead. His belly size at 36 weeks gestation was equivalent to a 40 week baby!! His head was 41. Chat Icon

My doctor induced a week early because of the measurements and she later said that if she hadn't induced and I had gone full term, I would have been forced to have a C after laboring for hours.

I would highly recommend that you speak to your doctor and get the results you want and need. Chat Icon Don't give up until you get an answer.

ETA: I didn't realize you were so close to your due date. I hope your doctor is supportive next week!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Posting this here because I need support from mom's with delivery experience

When "I was preggo with Luca they told me I wads having a 9lb baby. Less then 24 hours later I delivered a 7lb11oz baby vaginally. This time I pushef out an 8lb5oz baby and I actually found the pushing part (not the labor) to be much easier and I feel like I did less "damage" down there then I did the first time.
Don't be scared. Just explore your options and talk to your Dr. about the game plan. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have no real advice for you... part of me feels like your doctor is being an alarmist, especially because Lucas wasn't small and that worked out well, but it's easy for me to say that when I'm not the one taking a risk. Good luck, whatever you decide.

NO real advice, just wanted to give some well wishes and Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Sometimes doctors mention things because they were just dealing with that situation,or maybe it's something they should have brought up with Lucas and never did....who knows why they say what they do sometimes! But i would DEFINITELY discuss it ASAP......

Wishing you all the best!

fwiw, two of my friends just recently delivered 9+ pound babies vaginally.

i don't think that the estimated size of the baby should be the deciding factor between c-section or not, especially since the estimates are so often very inaccurate.

but i think you should make the decision that makes you most comfortable, and definitely address your concerns with your OB Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Posting this here because I need support from mom's with delivery experience

I'm 5'1" with a small frame and delivered DD vaginally. Tore pretty badly and a vacuum was used (she was sunny side up), but a c-section because of her size was never brought up by my OBs. She had been measuring big all along and I asked about whether her size would pose a problem - the OB's said the research does not indicate that size matters or that it affects c-section rates. I'm sure other things related to baby size do - pelvic size, etc. - but the baby itself and possibly you do not according to the research - so said my OB. I was induced 6 days late but my OBs would've let me go longer if I had wanted to - they were not even remotely concerned about her size though I was terrified of getting her out. It was all fine and not bad at all, despite the tear - was much worse in my head. I would def bring up your concerns but try not to stress too much - many large babies are born vaginally!

Also, to emphasize PPs, estimates are often off. SIL was induced early because her doctors thought my nephew's estimated size would be a problem. Well, she never progressed, they did a c-section, and the estimates were off by a full 2 lbs. She basically had surgery and issued her DS an eviction notice for no reason. Chat Icon
