Pottery Barn Gripe ***UPDATED***
i am interested in purchasing a few items (furniture and rugs) from pottery barn. the total for the 5 items is $2,580.22 (excluding tax and shipping) the shipping ALONE is over $650. that is 25% + of the total purchase price.
W T F????
how the H E L L can they charge that amount for shipping? there is a delivery surcharge per item PLUS a 10% charge of the total purchase. i called the 800 # and told the rep that i thought that was beyond INSANE. she actually agreed w/ me and said that there have been A LOT of complaints.
not for nothing but we purchased over 15k worth of furniture from ethan allen and they only charged us $75 for delivery (not to mention they made 3 delivery trips).
***UPDATED***
via phone, i managed to get the updated $4,000 (including tax and delivery) total down to $2,900 (including tax and delivery for 8 items - furniture and rugs) i had an expired 10% coupon that the accepted PLUS 2 of the items were being offered through an "unadvertised" sale.
ALSO, the store is having a sale on one of the items ($400 off orginal price) and the shipping is only $60.
end result, A LOT of phone calls and sweet talking but total savings = approx $1,100
i also have the option of cashing in my amex reward points for another $200 savings. haven't decided but i think i might hold on to the points.

Re: Pottery Barn Gripe
I would call the store and see if you get them all delivered at the same time to the same place they might only charge you one fee. (I know that is what most furniture stores do) - I think if you order through the catalog it's different.
Also -check out the outlet at Tangers...I got my coffee table there for half the cost it was in the catalog because of one tiny little scratch on it that you can barely even see.

Re: Pottery Barn Gripe
Thats Ridiculous!!!
i'ev heard alot of complaints re: their shipping charges as well--- even for their Outlet, it almost doesnt pay to buy from their unless you can treck it all home with you, b/c their shipping charge is crazy Expensive!!! (its probably cheaper to rent a uhaul, and get some moving guys off of craigslist to do it for you )

the items are sold via catalog and internet only. i asked if the items could be delivered to the store for pick up and she said they don't have the space at the stores. i said that i would understand if there was an upcharge in delivery fees if the customer wanted the items to be delvered to the house as opposed to the store but that isn't even an option. they are basically double charging for delivery w/o offering options to the customer.

jcrew as well. if you order in-store you don't have to pay for shipping. they actually have a phone that customers can use to place catalog orders.
it makes NO SENSE. i'll definetly check w/ the store. i have a feeling that it will be the same price.. i spoke w/ 3 people from customer service and NOT ONE of them mentioned this.
i am just SO p i s s e d.
ETA: called the 800 # again and she said shipping is the same REGARDLESS of how the order is placed (phone, store, internet).

the outlet has some things that are catalog/internet only but you never know what they'll have. you could call and ask them. the shipping stinks!

Re: Pottery Barn Gripe
Also, i have a huge gripe with them. I got three gift certificates for them for my wedding. One day i sat on the computer for an hour picking out items i liked and trying to figure out how to apply the gift certificates. They don't accept gift certificates for online purchases
How can they do that??? Half their stuff is in the catalog and not at the store. Me and DH were so mad.

Re: Pottery Barn Gripe
PB is famous for their high shipping rates. If you notice they will advertise free shipping on certain items but its usually a candle or something LOL.
I think if enough people complain they'll eventually have to do something about it.
