Potty training, im at my wits end......update 1/o8
im sitting here in tears. i just cant get my ds to use the potty on a daily basis. he is going to be 3 and 1/2 years old . somedays he will use it all day long. and then days like today, he wet his underwear every single time he had to go. My dd was potty trained in 3 days. I dont know what else to do. How long is this going to take?
update 1/08
what a difference 4 days makes. My ds has only had one accident today, and he finally made poops in the potty for the first time yesterday. we are getting there, we are definitly getting there.
and ddunne2, the toy on top of the fridge worked like a charm!!!

Just keep moving forward. Don't fall back into using pull-ups!! What worked with my son and he trained in 3 days was a sticker chart, where he got candy every 5 star stickers he earned and we also bought him "pee" targets to put in the toilet and it sort of made it fun for him.

First
Second - what is he wearing? Pull-ups? Underwear? Pull-ups & underwear?
I know friends were successful by bribing. For us, ds wasn't allowed to take swimming lessons unless he was potty trained (mainly because his fat momma at the time wouldn't get in a bathing suit )

Re: Potty training, im at my wits end......
I know how you feel. My plan was to have Sarah potty trained over this 2 week break from school. She had a really bad cold the first week and is still out of sorts, every time I put her on the potty she just cries and cries and cries.

Re: Potty training, im at my wits end......
Oh Caren, I feel your pain. Nicholas was VERY hard to train and most boys are more difficult to train than girls (usually). What worked for me was a sticker chart. For every 5 stickers earned (peepee on potty, no accidents, knew to tell me he had to go), Nicholas earned a prize from a prize box (I bought all sorts of crap from the dollar store. You'd a thunk it was pure gold- ). For the pooping, it was much harder for him. I had a NPIP (No Poop In Pull-Ups) container with tickets (that I made out of cardstock paper). Every successful day that he DIDN'T poop in his pullup, he was rewarded a ticket that he put in the container. Every day that he didn't poop in the pullup AND pooped in the potty (cause there were days he didn't go at all), he got 2 tickets. Once he reached 10 tickets, he cashed them in for a trip to KayBee and was able to select a prize (within reason). Worked like a charm.
Next, I have to get started on Joey.
Good Luck!!!!!

Re: Potty training, im at my wits end......
Go to the toystore and buy something very enticing that he would LOVE LOVE to have. Bring it home and put it someplace where he can see it, but not reach it...on top of the fridge, up on a high shelf. Tell him he must use the potty all the time for a week or whatever you feel is appropriate. Once he does that, he gets the toy.
That plus the "Potty Power" video had Jack trained in no time.
Also remember that this is not something you can make them do. It is so so frustrating, but it will happen with time. And some kids train very early and some late.

Re: Potty training, im at my wits end......
DS is stubborn...... VERY stubborn. When we started training with him, we tried bribing him with stickers, and even matchbox cars (which he LOVES!!!). Didn't matter. He would rather forgo something he loves than cave and do something he doesn't want to do....
He eventually "decided" that he wanted to use the potty, and from that point on, it was smooth, but getting him to the point where he decided was a long, arduous journey.....

I am right there with you. I am trying to potty train Jake He does not care if he pees in his pants and will not do #2 on the potty. I have tried stickers, chocolat pez - nothing works. He just does not want to go on the potty. I gave up and will try again in a few weeks.

Re: Potty training, im at my wits end......update 1/o8
That's great progress. It can be so frustrating. We started with my DD when she was a little over 2. This went on for months since she obviously wasn't ready. Somedays she was great, others not so much. Finally I decided to put her in underwear only at home. This way she knew when she was having an accident. I also made a chart on posterboard and wrote on top Gracie's Potty Chart. I punched holes in the top and attached a ribbon so we could hang it from the bathroon door and move it from bathroom to bathroom. I attached an envelope to the bottom and put all kinds of stickers in there. My DD helped picked them out. Everytime she went potty she got a sticker. She loved it. Poop was the hardest so I would bribe her with 5 stickers. This system was great for us but to be honest she may have just been ready to potty train also. Anyway, its trying, I wish you luck. It sounds like he ison his way!
