Potty Training rewards

What kind of rewards did you give for potty training and did you use some kind of reward chart?

Landon has been going on the potty all on his own (I am not trying to train him, for selfish reasons I don't want him trained right now Chat Icon ) but the first time he went on the potty I was so shocked since I haven't been pushing this on him at all - I took him to the store and went on a shopping spree. He got a truck puzzle, and truck book, an elmo dumptruck, 6 matchbox cars and a ramp for his trucks/cars.

The second time he peed on the potty he goes "Lets go to the store and buy a BIG truck" and this morning he said he is getting another truck.

I guess this is all my fault for taking him on a shopping spree the first time, but I have to start a sticker reward chart or I will go broke and my house will be taken over by trucks!

Re: Potty Training rewards

We gave candy. It's cheaper but we still have to deal with weaning her off rewards.

DD has been trained for 4 months now and this morning she told me she wanted candy for making poop... I told her that was only for when she was learning how to do it. She told me she wanted to learn it again. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Potty Training rewards

We used a sticker chart and a bag of cheapy prizes in the beginning.

We still have a bag of prizes-but those are prizes for poop (we are no where near trained on poop).

For number 1, she now gets a Hershey kids (no more sticker chart or prizes for number 1 since she is usually pretty good at it). We have to get her off the candy-but it's all that works right nowChat Icon Chat Icon

We had a bag of goody bag items I got at Party City or from the dollar store, stuff like tattoos, little coloring books, stickers, etc. Once they were good at peeing the prizes were only for poop, and then once those were gone that was it. They got one big thing when they were totally trained - DS wanted a Spiderman costume.

I don't like to use food for incentives.

Re: Potty Training rewards

I let her pick out stickers that she liked at staples...it was the shiny sparkle stars..she loved it. Then I got sesame rewards chart and she got the BIG stickers for every poop. I let her put it RIGHT ON The potty..the Fisher price potty had dozens of stickers all over it...this way she can see her reward everytime she goes for that potty.
Finally when DD had the potty thing down we bought her a BIG GIRL toddler bed...she LOVED it!! and we got he rto potty and sleep in bed.
NOW at 27 months she took out the FP potty seat and said NO! She only goes in the big potty YAHOO!!!! No more toddler potty only in the big girl bowl LOL

Oh yeah i went to dollar tree and wal mart had good dollar treats as well. we ONLY used toys as a reward when I had my baby a month ago. otherwise it was only stickers and after 10 stickers ONE reward

I think this is what I am going to do. He doesn't eat candy and all he wants is trucks or cars.

Did you give extra stickers for poop?

Re: Potty Training rewards

we loaded up on the 97 cent matchbox cars for the first week. Then the first time he was accident free and pooped on the poppy he got a "big toy". Then we reinforced it for about a week or two after with dum dum lollipops which we kept in a bowl and he would get to go pick one out.

Re: Potty Training rewards

For us, each time he peed and washed his hands I gave him 1 m&m. If he didn't wash his hands no m&m and that worked and he was trained pretty good with pee and now he doesn't care so much about the reward bcs he doesn't want to wash his hands each time, lol..

With poo, we do stickers and each time he gets 10 stickers we go to TRU to buy him a toy.

It's been working great so far Chat Icon

(except for today when we were at OUAT and he had to poo over there, our first public poo, omg!, not so good, lol)

Re: Potty Training rewards

I made a big box that I decorated with princess paper. In it I threw all sorts of dollar store treats- small toys, lollipops, etc...

Every time she went on the potty for the day- she got to pick a prize from the potty box...

Re: Potty Training rewards

At the beginning we rewarded DS with his favorite candy, M&Ms, but then I stopped giving it to him bc it just became too much. He got cartwheels and hoorahs from DH and I after each time he went. We really just made a big deal out of it. He potty trained pretty quickly.
