power of attorney-Updated with closing tomorrow
How easy or hard is this?? DH is in the Police Academy and they will NOT let him have off for the closing tomorrow. Then we changed the time from 12 to 2pm now. So he asked for a half day and they will not give him an answer. Everything is all set but now the lawyer is POed since we didn't do power of attorney forms. Now he says we can't close until next week Anyone familiar with these forms is it that difficult?? Thanks for any help, this is so upsetting. I can't believe they won't let him out of the academy for a couple of hours. Sorry to vent
Update: so DH will have a half day tomorrrow so he will make the closing. Thank you all for your reponses. I was really worried and this whole thing has been very stressful, I am also finishing grad school this semester. Thanks for listening guys!

Re: power of attorney
Your lawyer should be able to make up a power of attorney form for you that gives you the ability to make certain legal decisions on his behalf.
There is a checklist of everything from medical decisions to real estate transactions. I am assuming in this case you would just do RE for this temporary situation but you might want to consider some other financial transactions if he will always work off-hours.
I am my father's P.O.A. on everything because he is severely disabled but a co-worker of mine is her DH's power of attorney because he travels (sometimes internationally) at least 3 weeks out of the month.
It's a pretty standardized form but it will still delay things at least a few days.

Re: power of attorney
a power of attorney is standard document - the lawyer probably has a form that he just fills int he details of the mortgage and the house
i had one done just in case i did not make my closing and it was so easy
just need the form notorized
the power of atorney should not hold up the closing

Re: power of attorney
We used a POA when we bought our first house, since I was still in NY and DH was living in CT and was the only one who could attend the closing.
It was easy peasy, I just had to sign a form at the lawyers office. It's a standard form, they just put our names in it. I don't understand why it would hold up the closing....

Re: power of attorney
We did a poa for our house too. My DH was away on business. All we had to do was sign some papers, it didnt take long at all. I was just surprised that at the closing this was included in the fees - my lawyer neglected to tell me that part.

Re: power of attorney
I've also closed on investment property without my husband. He executed a notarized POA to me-- couldn't have been easier.
