PP Hair Loss?
Hey Everyone...
A few weeks ago I started losing hair. I have two very thin patches on either side of my temple. I called my OBGYN and he said he didn't think it was because of post partum because I was 4 months after, and so he said to call my Primary. I made an appt with my primary, he took blood and it all came out fine. He called it Alopecia and refered me to a dermotologist which I haven't had a chance to go to yet, unfortunately. I have off in 2 weeks so I am hoping then.
Anyway I am continuing to lose hair. THe patches haven't gotten much bigger but I think I'm just having a general thinning. My hair feels much less thick when I pull it into a ponytail and I am just loosing so much in the shower and when I do my hair in the morning.
I'm just wondering if any of you experienced PP hair loss and what the experience was like. A friend I work with said her mom had it and never grew it back.

Re: PP Hair Loss?
I've started losing mine. Not so much that I have patches but more than I am used to. I am going to call my midwives and ask them to do bloodwork.

Re: PP Hair Loss?
Mine came out in droves starting about 4 months. My hair wasn't the same until almost a full year later. When you're pregnant, your hair goes into a resting phase because your body is focusing on growing your baby. Afterwards, all of that hair you would have shed during the past 10 months, starts growing & shedding.

Re: PP Hair Loss?
It just drives me crazy because I have two huge almost bald patches! I have a LOT of hair so I don't mind it getting thinner -- I don't anticipate it getting so thin that it would be noticable, except for the fact that I have two big spots where there isn't much hair at all.

Re: PP Hair Loss?
My hair kept falling out until 6 months. Someone told me that I should have continued with the prenatals after I gave birth and that would have prevented it...

Re: PP Hair Loss?
I have he exact same thing, on the sides of my head the hair is so thin, although I have so much (just like you), so you can't really see it unless I pullmy hair back. I wouldn't worry, I have gotten this with each if my 3 pregancies and it slowws don around 6 months, mine only started at 3-4 months! This is so common, I;m not sure why your doc felt it was unrelated? It will gorw back, although I know how scary it is! I got my hair cut short so ow it looks much healthier.

Re: PP Hair Loss?
My primary said it happened to her at 4 months pp. She said I have to keep taking my vitamins (which I wasn't). She said it is normal.

Re: PP Hair Loss?
Funny you say this... I too are 3 months PP and just starting to loose large clumps of hair. Just in the shower this morning I was thinking to myself, "what the heck, I am shedding". Maybe it has to do with the hormone changed and finally getting back to normal. I am not to concerned yet, but it is annoying having hair all over the place.

Re: PP Hair Loss?
I posted about this awhile back! I am losing it by the truckloads! I went to the dermotologist and they said it's telogen effluvium - when the body goes thru a trama (pregnancy/labor) the system reverses the natural hair growth pattern (80% growth 20% loss) and you lose tons. It's supposed to be most evident at 3-4 months post trama and taper off after that. I too have patches missing but I don't have a ton of hair so it's awful for me! Hoping it ends soon!
