PPD Question... Sorry if TMI...

I sufferred from PPD pretty badly after the birth of my DS. My question is for anyone who may know the answer to this. If you are not comfortable answering in Q please FM me. I have to take 10mg of Lexapro daily for the PPD. My question is how do I know when I'm ready to come off of it? My DH does not want me taking medicine forever, but I'm scared to come off of it b/c I NEVER want to feel the way I was feeling ever ever again. For any of you who have had experience with this, or maybe just know the answer, what do I do? DS is 9 months old. How do I know when I am ready to come off of the meds?????? TIA for any help you guys can provide me....

I felt the same way as you. I did not want to be on the meds forever. I came off after a year to see how it would go. I learned that you need to wean off VERY slowly or you will get bad headaches, feel like vomiting, and can actually feel more depressed than you really are. I felt pretty good when I finally came off, but a few months later, I was feeling awful again. I went back on for another year and then came off again. I have been pretty good since. I have my moments but generally I am okay. I am p/g right now and they want me to take the meds asap after the baby is born, so I do not get as bad this time.

Thank you. I am PETRIFIED to ever get pregnant again b/c of it. I L-O-V-E-D every single minute of being pregnant, but have never been so miserable in my life as I was for the first few months of my precious DS's life. I'm glad to hear that you were able to successfully wean off of it the second time around. That gives me hope. But if I do EVER get pregnant again, I will do the same as you and go immediately back on the meds after the birth. Thank you! It feels so much better just knowing I'm not alone in this....Chat Icon
