She has a very rare spinal tumor and went down to Johns Hopkins to have it de-bulked before radiation. She knew there could be substantial risks since they had to remove some vertebrae. As it turns out she is now paralyzed from the waist down. She is devastated. Her boss went down to Baltimore to visit her yesterday and they are trying to fly her back to NY for rehab. She doesn't have control of her bladder or bowels either. How awful. She is about 52 years old.
There are only 3 or 4 doctors in the US that have worked on tumors like this and she went with the most aggressive approach. Otherwise the tumor could have killed her in 10 years.
