Pre-Natal Question

Hi girls...so I ran out of the sample pre-natals my OB gave me and dropped off the prescription he gave me for them. Well I went to pick them up and it was $73 for a 1 month supply. I'm shocked that my health insurance wouldn't cover pre-natals. I didn't get them and just started taking my Target pre-natals again. I had gotten the Target pre-natals when I got my BFP and started taking them right away.

I'm going to ask my OB if I can just continue taking the Target brand and supplement it with DHA.

Have any of you done that?

Part of me feels bad for not buying the ones the Dr. prescribed but then it seemed when I compared both packages that Target has pretty much the same vitamins/minerals that the prescription had with the exception of the DHA.

Re: Pre-Natal Question

I picked mine up yesterday too and it was $58 I called my insurance company and they said that $28 of that was the deductible and that it will be $30 a month from now on. You should call and see why!

Re: Pre-Natal Question

Mine were $40 a month and I called my insurance and they said my prenatal Prenate elite, happened to be the most expensive one and that there were a bunch much less expensive. I asked my dr. for an equivalent and she gave me 4 sample packs of different prenatals and told me to find one that i like and that is cheaper and she would write a prescription. She also said that I could get a generic one without a prescription and then take an omega supplement and that it would be the same but much cheaper.

Isn't it just insane though. We don't pay for regular prescriptions. My husbands plan requires $0 co-pay in general, but then for pre-natals they wouldn't cover it.

I'll call them though and see what the case is.

Re: Pre-Natal Question

Mine were expensive too - I think around $40 (not as $$ as yours but still pricey every month!) - I filled them for the first 3 months but then decided to go back to the prenatals I bought at Target. They didn't have the DHA and I didn't supplement.

I think if you take the Target ones and go ahead and supplement that should be fine!HTH Chat Icon

Re: Pre-Natal Question

I was taking Target pre-natals while TTC. Once I was PG I asked my doc and he said those were fine to keep taking, so I've been on those ever since.

Re: Pre-Natal Question

My doctor only asked me if I was taking pre-natals. I said yes and she never asked what kind or anything. Just wanted to make sure i was taking them.

I've been taking the Target brand prenatals since TTC.
