Pre-Term Labor?
My friend went into pre term labor today. She was 4.5 months pregnant. I feel so bad for her and her DH.
Does anyone know why that happens?

Re: Pre-Term Labor?
Don't have a clear answer for you. But that happened to a friend of mine as well.
For the following pregnancy the dr performed a procedure where they sewed her cervix shut and she was put on bed rest for the entire pregnancy.
I hope everything works out for your friend.

Re: Pre-Term Labor?
A co-worker of my friend gave birth at 5 months, the baby is in the NICU doing well but on a ventilator. It is a 50/50 at that stage. Many different things can make that happen. and for your friend

Re: Pre-Term Labor?
Did they give her medicine to stop the contractions? That usually works, and if she has started to dialate they do a cerclage(sp) to close the cervix.
for your friend.

Re: Pre-Term Labor?
First prayers for your friend. If they can stop her labor and her water has not broken she may be OK. Chances are there was an infection-she may test positive for group B strep or some other infection....I will be thinking of her

Re: Pre-Term Labor?
So sorry. It might have been an "incompotent cervix." The cervix starts shortening and dialating early. I know a few people who had this, but the docs were able to catch it, stitch them up and put them on bedrest.
My prayers are with your friend.
ETA: there's a post on the Pregnancy board about this now. Post
