Pregnancy & Crohn's Disease

We are hoping to TTC by July.
I have had Crohn's Disease since 1997 & currently on 6-MP which is considered a high-risk medication to take during pregnancy & Pentasa which that is not bad but I will be unable to breast feed if I stay on this medication.
My GI MD does NOT want me to go off these medications in Fears of a Flare Up.
I already saw a Maternal Fetal Medicine MD & they had the same research my husband & I did about the medication 6-MP.
So Far my OB/GYN & GI MD are on Board & talk to each other on a regular basis so I know I am in VERY Good Hands.
But I otherwise got the OK to start trying...
I was wondering if anybody out there has Crohn's Disease & is on any medications.

Thank you
Have a Lovely Night!!!
Geraldine

Re: Pregnancy & Crohn's Disease

I just had my second baby, I have Crohn's (was diagnosed in 1999) and was on meds including 6 mp for both pregnancies. My specialist in Manhattan (from Mount Sinai) felt the same way. You do not want to flare during pregancy (I was in a full flare when I conceived the 2nd time). It was brutal. I was in remission when I got pregnant the first time and had a great pregnancy. I would recommend staying on the meds. I know it is a scary thought but it really is for the better. I have 2 beautiful healthy babiesChat Icon Feel free to FM me any time. Good luck!Chat Icon

I don't have Crohn's but my husband does so I know what a flare up can do to you. Just wanted to give you my support!

Also, for what it's worth - I'd recommend staying on whatever medications the doctor says is safe. They know what's safe and wouldn't put your baby at risk.

Re: Pregnancy & Crohn's Disease

i'm on Humira. If I get pregnant I will stay on it. It's the only thing that has gotten me to remission.

It's a class B drug.

Stay on the meds.
