I would actually just like to know if you enjoyed your experience or not. I live right near Good Sam, but so many people that I know have chosen to deliver at Southside. I just wanted to see what everyones experience was. I am glad to hear you had a nice one at Good Sam.

I delivered at good sam. I had a great experience with the L&D. The nurses were awesome. I honestly wasn't impressed with the care I received on the 5th floor.

Re: Pregnancy question--Good Sam/Southside

I delivered at Good Sam and had a terrific experience. I had a unique situation because my grandfather was on hospice when I went into the hospital and he was hanging on to see my son I am sure! The nurse during the day processed my paperwork so fast and made calls to my ob and the ped to get me on my way. She also sent me off with TONS of formula and goodies so that I had nothing to worry about other than rushing home to see my grandfather. I am sure that my labor skewed my point of viewChat Icon It was pretty quick. But, I stayed in overnight fefore I went into labor and the private room was nice. I had a HORRIBLE roommate which kind of ruined my stay she snored louder than anyone I have ever heard, including my dad and grandfatherChat Icon I actually used meds to sleep and when the nurses came in they knew why!!!

ETA: my grandfather passed away the day after we left the hospital and drove straight to his houseChat Icon I am eternally grateful to that nurse and my doctors for helping me.

Same here. L&D was amazing. The maternity ward was not.

The first time I had my baby in the room I asked for BFing help because I was new to it and the nurse said "Didn't you do any reading?" Umm, yea but reading and real life are so different!!

She was really nasty she told me I was too big to BF and walked out. I tried and managed for a few weeks.

I delivered at southside and can not say enough good things about them. The nurses were very helpful and so nice, very clean rooms. FM if you have any questions.

Re: Pregnancy question--Good Sam/Southside

I delivered at Good Sam. I liked the L&D very much. I had a very mixed experience in the maternity ward. My doctor warned me going in that everybody loves the L&D nurses, but the maternity ward is not as good.

What I liked:

I was able to have my baby with me whenever I wanted, which was pretty much 24/7.

They never kicked my husband out - he was there from about 6am until midnight during my stay (which was 3 nights - I had a C-section).

Some of the nurses were very helpful and nice. All of the aides were super nice.

People could come and go. I had visitors outside the visiting hours and it was no problem. I also had a lot of visitors my second 2 nights and nobody said anything.

I was adamant my baby not have a pacifier or any bottle. They were very good about this, and wrote BREASTFEED ONLY all over his little bassinet thing.

What I did NOT like:

It wasn't as clean as I would like. Dont' get me wrong, it was clean, but I would have liked it a bit cleaner.

No option for a private room. I would have paid for one if it was available.

My original roomate left on my first day and I was by the door. I was BFing and requested to be moved to the window for privacy and they would not do it. I guess to change the beds and paperwork would have been to much hassle. They so could have done it, and when I told my doctor she was really ******.

Some of the nurses were downright rude. ONLY a small number. One nurse I had was so rude to my roomate and spoke to her like a child. My other nurse was so sweet. Totally hit or miss.

I requested a lactation consultant to help me and nobody came.

The food stinks. But thats true at any hospital I guess. I made all visitors bring food.

Good luck with whatever you choose!!!

I delivered at GSam on 10/10 and I loved the L&D nurses and room and the maternity ward was great as well all the nurses and aids were wonderful. And they had a breast feeding class right on my floor for any moms that needed it and the lactation consultant came to help me and my roommate several times. And I couldn't believe how nice the nurses and aids were since from the Tues. I had a C-section to the Sat. I left 36 babies were born and they were very stressed and still nice. I also wanted a private room but I am glad I didn't have one because now I have a great friend. Good luck and congrats.

Re: Pregnancy question--Good Sam/Southside

I just wanted to add I was in L & D the other day at Good Sam...And they were AWESOME.....All the nurses, residents etc were so nice and personable. I am delivering at Winthrop but Good Sam is closer to me and we loved how sweet they were.

My Best Friend had all 3 of her kids at SouthSide and loved it too.
