Pregnant after miscarriage fears

Hello,

I am 12 weeks pregnant after recurrant miscarriages. I thought that I would hit the 12 week point and feel such a sigh of relief. In fact, it's the opposite. I feel even more nervous and anxious about everything working out. I am really surprised that I feel like this. It's like I'm afraid to accept it and let go of worry. Like it would be too painful in the event that a miscarriage were to happen now.

Has anyone else ever felt like this? Someone suggested that I get a home Doppler machine. Has anyone had any experience with these. Brands?

Thanks so much for any advice!!

I would not get a doppler if I were you. I have one because I was paranoid with all of my pregnancies but sometimes you are unable to find the heartbeat. Especially early on. It will cause you more worry than relief. Good luck!

First off, Congrats!!!

I never bought a Doppler, so I can't comment on that. But, what you're feeling is very normal. I don't think I truly relaxed until the day my DD was born.

I've also had recurrent miscarriages and it's hard for me to believe that this pregnancy is really real. I'm 18 weeks now.

I had a fetal doppler with my first pregnancy (that produced DD) and was able to hear the heartbeat with it from 10 weeks on. It was a hospital-grade one I rented from babybeat.com. I used a different brand with this one (Sonoline-B) that was less sensitive, and the first time I tried it at 14 weeks, I didn't find the hb, even after 15 minutes of trying. I had a panic attack - saw stars, started hyperventilating, etc. It was awful. I found out at my next appointment that I have an anterior placenta (totally harmless, but the placenta is in front of the baby, muffling the sound of the hb and cushioning kicks so I can't really feel them). I begged DH to hide the doppler from me and I didn't use it again until 17w. I found the hb really easily then. Moral of the story? If everything is going well and also, your placenta is behind the baby, dopplers are great piece of mind. If not, you're in for some moments of terror. After my 1st pregnancy I would have recommended the doppler to anyone. This time? I'm not sure. But at 18 weeks, not feeling kicks, I do use mine every 2 or 3 days.

I felt like this too. I think it's normal after having a loss... once you've experienced a loss like that, it's almost impossible to be carefree about being pregnant.

I didn't get a Doppler. The nervousness went away a little bit once I started feeling the baby move, but then I would freak out if I didn't feel her move for a while.

It's very normal and you are not alone. I'm 7w6d and have all these fears. I don't think it will ever feel normal.
