Pregnant Colo. woman hit by car while fleeing bear

10:12 PM EDT, April 23, 2009
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Police in Colorado say a pregnant woman suffered minor injuries when she was struck by a slow-moving car while fleeing from an adult black bear.
Police say they're looking for the driver of the car that hit 26-year-old Ashley Swendsen on Thursday in Colorado Springs.
Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Terri Reishus says Swendsen, who is about five months pregnant, is in good condition.
Michael Seraphin of the state Division of Wildlife says the bear was later euthanized after Swendsen identified it.
Police say the motorist who hit Swendsen stopped and spoke to her but left before authorities arrived.
The wildlife agency says the incident occurred in an area where bears are common.

I'm laughing a little though about the part of the bear being identified - I just keep on picturing a bear line-up

Ok. First of all, why was she being chased by a bear? 
Second of all, again with the euthanization...a human goes into an animal's natural habitat, and when they get chased, they have to put the bear down for reacting the way it would naturally.
I'm sure there's more to the story....maybe they were camping...who knows. 
I do feel bad for her though  I hope she and the baby are ok.

OK, I'm really sorry, the story is REALLY sad and my heart goes out to this poor woman ...

I don't get why the woman is an idiot. From what I read, she was walking on a paved trail in a city park -- it's not like she went up to a bear den in the middle of the woods and provoked a chase.
I DO think it's awful that the bear had to be put down.

As I'm reading it from the OP's story:
The wildlife agency says the incident occurred in an area where bears are common
If it was a KNOWN area for bears, why was she walking around there if she was PG???
