Prego with a few questions here?

How many weeks/days were you when you had DC? I am approaching my due date and just wanted to know how many people actually go after their EDD?
My Dr's office says they won't let me go past 42 weeks. I am currently 38 weeks 4 days now.

Also if your water broke what was it like? Was it like a little pee or was it like non stop dripping/leaking? I am just trying to figure out what it would be like when your water does break?

Also if you can explain what contractions feel like? I know everyone is different but like to here other people's stories of what they went through.

I went 2 days before my dd. I don't know about my water breaking. It broke in the hospital and I didn't even know it. The contractions were kinda like cramps, I guess, on and off every couple of minutes. You feel across your belly, and your belly gets tight. You can't even breathe when they get bad. I just held my breath. I went into pre-term labor at 34 weeks. But contractions are way different. you WILL know when you contracting.

well, i went REALLY early so you cant go by me lol i was just 2 days shy of 35 weeks

my water didnt break so i cant answer that question, but contractions feel literally like period cramps that get worse and worse and worse as you progress

YES i agree with this -- i remember not being able to breath during some contractions... i also remember getting up to pee & holding onto the wall during a contraction

I was due 10/8...i went into labor at 4am on 10/9...hows that for accurate?!Chat Icon

My water didnt break, they broke it at the hospital.

How does one describe a contraction? I'll answer honestly. The worst pain I ever felt...like my insides were getting twisted around. The pain was so bad I vomitted 2x while in labor. My first contraction woke me up from dead sleep, my eyes opened wide and my first thought was "*** was that?!". And stupid me didnt bother with lamaze, figured I'd wing it. But the nurse was kind enough to give me a tip...keep your eyes open through a contraction and focus on one thing! Then sway from side to side. It helped so much you have no clue!

But dont be scared...its sooooooooo worth it! I'd go through 1000 contractions again if it meant having my DS!

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

I delivered on my due date.
I had an appointment the day before and they set up an induction date for the following week just in case! HAHA! I didn't need it.
My water broke slowly. It was more of a little stream. It happened in the elevator on the way up to L&D.
My contractions felt like really bad stomach cramps. I never had menstrual cramps so I couldn't say that is what it felt like. Thank goodness it didn't last too long.

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

I was induced at 38 weeks because I was having twins. So, I didn't feel my water break (which I am kind of thankful for!). My contractions may have been more intense because of the pitocin, but they were like REALLY bad period cramps. I also had back labor (DS was sunny side up) and that was just a horrible, cramping pain in my back...that actually hurt more than the actual contractions.

Good luck, Roxanne!!!

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

I went into labor 12 days before my due date. My water broke and it was a huge gush of.water and I continued to leak water for my entire 22 hrs of labor before my csec I had no contractions before my water broke. My contractions started about 2 hrs after my water breaking and they were painful peaking everytime and were 2 mins apart for over 20 hrs and I never dilate past 2 cm so after 15 hrs they allowed the epidiral even though I never made it to 3 cm. Contractions were extremely painful tightening in my entire stomach.

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

due 8/17. went to my 40 week dr that morning, had a rough internal and he said i was 2 cm dilated. Then went to work, had back the whole day and didn't realize it was labor, i even tried to chiropractor on the way home, but he was closed. I got home around 6 had a bloody show. then around 7:30 i started timing my back pain and they were 7-10 mins apart. but i was still able to walk around and do things. then around 9 they started coming around my back to my stomach, like very intense period carmps and they changed to about 5 mins apart. then around 11 i tried to go to sleep, but couldn't. so finally at 3AM we called the dr and went to the hospital. got to the hospital and i was 4CM. i walked around but had to stop during each contraction and then 5CM around 6AM they broke my water and gave me my EPI. then i finally had DD at 8PM that night on 8/18.

good luck to you!!

ETA: when they broke my water it didn't hurt at all and it was a gush of water. i felt like i was sitting pee till they changed my wee wee pad. BTW- the next contration after they broke my water was quite intense and thats when i asked for the EPI.

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

I delivered 5 days before my due date.

My water didn't break. They broke it in the hospital.

I started having contractions on a Wednesday and gave birth on Friday. On Wednesday, I kept thinking that "maybe" I was having contractions. I went to the hospital twice because the contractions were coming consistently 5 minutes apart but they were just uncomfortable, not painful. When the contractions REALLY started coming... there was NO questioning it. I was in so much pain that I could hardly move when a contraction came. I literally didn't know what to do with myself until it was over. We headed right to the hospital and were checked into a room.

I delivered at 40w6d

I was laying in bed and felt a kick and a POP! Water came gushing out and continued to gush out until I got to the hospital. It was a constant flow.

Contractions felt like having to go to the bathroom LOL I actually kept getting up and trying to go until FINALLY the nurse said "you are having contractions, you don't have to poop, LAY DOWN!" Chat Icon

They were also very overwhelming, I could not think or keep my wits about me when having one. I couldn't talk or concentrate on anything other than the pain.

If you have a method for dealing with this - I truly feel like a natural birth is possible!

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

Hi there!
I had my DD at 40 weeks...I was actually one day shy of 40 weeks- I went one day before my due date.
I thought I'd be late so it was a surprise.

My water never broke- though I think I might have been leaking or trickling some fluid because I kept having to change my pantyliner that morning- it felt damp.
The Dr broke my water at the hospital- it didn't hurt for me- but I was shocked at how much gushed out. It was like a tidal wave!!

For ME- contractions didn't feel like what everyone else says- like strong menstrual cramps. For me it was a sharp tightening and spasm like feeling in my uterus area. It wuold come and go and was irregualar all day on monday. By early Tuesday morning it was more intense and coming at regular intervals- 5min apart.
That is when I called the Dr.

I also want to add that although they were painful they were bearable. When I got to the hospital I was at 4-5 cm he said..he was actually suprirsed I wasn't in more pain. I have had kidney stones though, so compared to that this was nothing.
I still got my epi right away though- so I don't know how bad they would have gotten after that. All I know was I felt NOTHING until it was time to push! Chat Icon

Good luck to you! Chat Icon

Due 10/28 had baby on 1/11.
My water broke in the hospital so I did not feel/see anything.
As for contractions..it felt like someone was twisting my insides. I had horrible sharp pains in my stomach and back.
I get extremely bad cramps when I get AF and imo it was nothing like cramp pains. It's over so quickly and the reward at the end is so worth any pain. You will do just fine. GL

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

I had DD 3 days before my due date. I had no cramping or braxton hicks or anything before that day.

I woke up and felt period like cramps that quickly turned into more intense cramps and then once they were 2-3 mins apart (I was still at home!) the pain was intense. It's hard to explain what it feels like and once you experience it you'll understand... but I agree with Hayley above who said she didn't know what to do with herself during an intense contraction, it's so true! Everything I learned in lamaze went out the window and I would tense up and have to push into something with my hands and move my legs around or rock back & forth until it passed. I was lucky though and had a quick labor and was actually able to do it drug free. I think my water broke when I hit 10cm.

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

I went at 41 weeks.

Water breaking. It was 5 am and my hubby was getting up to go to work. I was laying there and felt a lil like I peed in my pants a little. Went to the bathroom, cleaned up, changed my underwear, and went back to bed. About a minute after I laid down, it happened again. Repeat. After the 3rd time, I wiped and the toilet paper was a little bloody. I called the doctor and he said it sounded like my water breaking. Upon getting up, moving around more, getting dressed and finishing packing my hospital bag it began trickling down my leg.

Contractions. They didn't come until I was hooked up to the pitocin. They started as just menstrual cramps, and within an hour, they were so bad I was throwing up. It was the worst pain I could imagine, but through all of that I will say that I can't wait to do it again Chat Icon

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

Hi...
I was induced at 40w 6d. My dr. would not let me go more than 41 weeks.
First thing my dr. did when he saw me at the hospital was break my water. I heard about something they use that looks like a knitting needle...none of that here. He just went in to check my dilation and told me he broke my water. I felt something wet but there was no gush or anything.
I was only 2cm when I went in to be induced. They started pitocin right away after they broke my water. I got the epidural at only 3cm b/c they offered it so I said sure. So I was only feeling minor contractions but my back definitely hurt and it was just really bad cramping is the only way I can describe it. Really bad stomach pains...total discomfort. My epidural wore off and before they gave me more I was feeling them...they hurt like hell. Again just horrible stomach pain/cramping and back pain.
Good luck to you!

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

My water broke 4 days before my due date. I felt a little wet trickle down my leg at 3am while I was asleep. I honestly thought I must have coughed/sneezed in my sleep and had an accident Chat Icon
Once I sat on the toilet, it felt like a water balloon had popped inside me and there was a big gush. After my water broke, I started having mild contractions which felt like a tightening in my belly that spanned around into my back. In the beginning, they were just uncomfortable and would make me just kind of wince in pain but I was still able to function. Once they got really bad all I could do was brace for the pain and hold onto the hospital bedrail. I ended up delivering 3 days before my due date.

Re: Prego with a few questions here?

It was 10 days before my EDD... I went to get a pedicure... and boy did they work those pressure points. LOL. Then I came home, decided to take a nap. I thought I had to pee again, so just as I got comfortable, I slowly made my way up. Just as I stood up...boom! Water EVERYWHERE> I waddeled to the bathroom as quickly as I could...and wow! I coudln't believe how much water was bustin out of me that I coudlnt' control. I started laughing. DH was on his way home from work...so I called my midwife... she told me to take a shower, wait for DH, and get to her. That was 4pm....DS was born at 1am.
