Prenatals VS Vitamins
When I had my first OB/GYN appointment I asked if I needed to be on specific prenatal vitamins. My doctor told me a regular over the counter vitamin with enough folic acid in it is good enough when TTC.
Did anyone else's doctor just say to take a regular vitamin --like Women's one a day---and don't worry about taking specific prenatals?
If you are taking a general vitamin like the one mentioned above, do you switch to a prenatal once you find out you are pregnant?
TIA

Re: Prenatals VS Vitamins
While you are TTC, the most important vitamin/nutrient is Folic Acid. So long as you take a multivitamin OR prenatal with at least 800mcgs of Folic Acid, you are good!

Re: Prenatals VS Vitamins
i got a generic brand prenatal (careone) from stop n shop...the back said it could be used as a womans daily if u just take 1 a day vs 2 for pregnant ppl)
showed my obgyn and she said it was fine. so i think a reg is fine as long as it has the folic acid (mine has 400 for 1 and 800 for 2)
i got my bfp and im still taking the same one...just 2 a day...im sure itll be fine when i show the dr.
the only other thing i would recommend in addition to the folic acid...take an omega pill (i take omega 3-6-9) and my dr said it was very good to take.

Re: Prenatals VS Vitamins
My doctor told me to take a multivitamin so I took Women's One A Day. I switched to prenatals as soon as I got pregnant.

Re: Prenatals VS Vitamins
When I was TTC the first time, I was taking Womens One a Day Prenatals, When I got PG my dr gave me an Rx for a prenatal but now that Im trying again, I went back to the Womens One a Day. I like it, but you have to take food with it or you get very nauseous.

Re: Prenatals VS Vitamins
Even when i was pregnant with my DD my dr's office told me to get the OTC prenatals. So either should be fine. I would just make sure it has enough folic acid. For me I take extra folic acid due to previous complications.

Re: Prenatals VS Vitamins
Thank you for all the replies. I forgot to add that I am also taking an additional folic acid with the vitamin.
