Preschool

At what age did you put your kids into preschool and where did they go?

Edited because I should have mentioned that right now, DS goes to a program at My Gym called "preschool prep"- I drop him off 2 days a week for 2 hours and they prepare them for preschool, do circle time, play, arts and crafts, lunch, etc. He loves going there and I was going to have him continue through the fall and enroll in school January but I'm not sure what to do.

LOL, seriously though, the moms i know who don't work or use daycare usually tried a preschool like setting around 3 or so.

Upk at are school. They were three when they started but they have a late birthday (class was mostly 4 year olds)

I would have put them in something. At 2 or early 3 but with hem being twins it was like 600 a mo th for 2 days a week for like 2 hours. Was too much for me

Dd1 was in daycare from 9 months but aged into a more traditional nursery school at a little over 3.5 years at a local catholic school. She attended 5 days/week full day b/c she was used to it but they had half day and partial week options.

Dd2 was watched by grandparents. She did a caregiver and me at 18 mos., is doing a 2-day/week 2 hr program this sept at 33 mos. (both at a local Christian school) and will begin the nursery school described above next sept when she’s a little over 3.5 years. Both my girls are December babies so they miss cutoffs.

DD has been in daycare since she was about 4 months, but we're hoping to get her into nursery school next fall. She'll be 3 then and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than daycare!

If you don't mind me asking, when is there birthday? DS is going to be 3 in November so I was going to wait until January but I have someone who thinks I'm being dumb by waiting.

both of my girls started preschool a few months before turning 3. Where they went age 3 was 'preschool' and age 4 was "pre-K"

My DD is a month younger than your DS. She’s been in daycare since 6 months and will be in her daycare’s pre-school program starting next month. Then next year she’ll go to the daycare’s pre-k and then K the following year. I would not wait at all, I would start him in September to keep him on track with the kids he will eventually go to K with.

A regular nursery school or even UPK would never work for us because we would not be able to pick her up when regular school ends.

I am all about nursery school. I put my kids in when they were 2 -- twice a week for about two hours. Then at age 3, 5 days a week for 3 hours per day. The following year there was universal prek... 5 days a week 3 hours a day.

DS was 1 month shy of his 2nd birthday. He goes to the local catholic school

My daughter goes to a home daycare where they do "school" but I haven't put her into an actual classroom setting yet for pre-school. She recently turned 3 and has no interest in potty training, so I am waiting to see about maybe putting her in at age 4.

My daughter is just a month younger than your son but will be a year behind in school due to cutoff. I felt she needed to learn how to socialize with others and how to go through routines. These are really the points of early programs, not so much academics. I found directors of programs to be very helpful if you call and explain your child’s dob. It’s nice to start in sept with a cohort. She loved having friends from her caregiver and me last year who will be joining her this year and that will make seaparation easier.

My first went at 2.5, since his birthday was in May, we enrolled for September. He was VERY shy and being my first, didnt have a sibling to socialize with or even any cousins, just a few of my friends kids. So for him, i felt he needed to start a little early and he actually really came into his own that year and I'm glad we did it.

My second is going to be 2 next month, so he is 6 months behind where my other son was for fall enrollment. I just dont think he is ready from a maturity stand point. He is still struggling with listening and following direction..lol. I just feel like he would really give the teachers a run for their money and I am not sure he would get much out of it at this point.
He is very different from my first, he is not shy, very social-able and I think he can wait until he is 3 for sure.

I was also looking into that My Gym program...that sounds like something i could put him in just to do something once a week.

DS #1 - Aug birthday did Gymboree school prep at 2 2x a week - pre-k at 4
DS #2 - Oct bday - started him the September before he turned 3 - it did not work so we dropped out and restarted in spring
DS #3 - September bday - started nursery the sept he turned 3 - loved it
DS #4 - Has a December bday so he will not start nursery until the September where he is already 3

I say Preschool 3, Pre-K 4 and Kinder 5.

My son went to kindergarten straight out of daycare. I just threw him in the deep end with no prepwork

My kids started nursery school at 2 (Monday to Friday 9 to 3). But we both work and preferred that atmosphere to a full time babysitter. I think most people I know start some kind of program at 3 and then do full or half day time pre k at 4.

they get preschool at daycare!

LOL yes. I would have sent her to elementary school at her daycare if I could!

And the best part they don't even have to be potty trained.
They can wear diapers in freaking Pre K if you want since it's a daycare.
