Preschool moms... class birthday parties?
I can't believe how many spring babies are in my son's class!! He has SIX class birthday parties for April and May alone! Two in June and three in July (including his own).
How much do you spend on gifts for classmates? I don't want to seem "cheap", but who knew how expensive it could get sending your kid to color 3 days a week?

Re: Preschool moms... class birthday parties?
No need to tell me about Spring b-day's, I got two myself to deal with very soon!
If its someone I don't know personally and its just part of a class invite, I go somewhere about $10-$20. If its a friend or someone I know well, I might go $20-$30.
I hope I don't sound too cheap. But it does get expensive after awhile!

Re: Preschool moms... class birthday parties?
Thanks, Trish. I've been spending around $25 on classmates (I'll spend more on a friend). I think I'll be declining invites next year.

Re: Preschool moms... class birthday parties?
Jack is in a toddler preschool program and is only two years old and we received a few class party invites. I decline all of them with one lame excuse after another. But, he is only TWO, has no idea he was even invited to a party and when they are that little it means I need to stand around and make mommy talk with the other kids moms. I know...sounds bad, but it seems like way too much for only being two and not even knowing all the kids names in your class.

Re: Preschool moms... class birthday parties?
For classmates, I get a $20 gift card to Toys r US or The Children's Place. For friends or family I do $30 per child.
Ava has only been in day care for 2 months and she has been invited to more parties than I have in years!!!

Re: Preschool moms... class birthday parties?
Kathi, my God, that is alot of parties!! It's tough being a popular man!!
I guess after awhile inviting everyone gets OLD. On the party throwing end, summer birthdays can be a plus Odd or not, most of the boys in Luke's class are summer babies. Out of 9 boys, he and 2 others are not born in the summer.
I guess I spend around $15-$20. Esp that it's a school party and it's not a "bring the siblings" event.

I'd do the same thing if this was my situation. Last year I didnt invite anyone from my son's class to celebrate his birthday. He was 3 and school had just started (he's an Oct baby)

Re: Preschool moms... class birthday parties?
This is an intersting question.. From what my friends have told me is that you have to start to learn the birthday game....
I was told you must invite everyone in the class.. This is what is done in my neighborhood so I guess I have to go with the flow on this one...
I would spend $20 on kids from his class that Jacob is invited to and probably 25 on kids he is really friends with... I am sure once he gets a little older- I will be giving gift cards only.
on another note---I have a problem with Jacob's b-day.. Since his birthday party is Sept 8th, I can get away with not inviting his class( 12 kids) in the toddler program.. HOwever, he will be going to camp with at least 6 of those kids this summer and he has been taking mommy andme with them since January... Do Invite those kids since he will be in school with them????

This is a pretty good summary of the "game" as I know and play it (my kids are 9 and 4).
ETA I would probably invite the camp kids and in all honesty if your inviting 6 you really can invite the other 6. I bet that since its so early in the year and some of them won't know you, you'll get a fair amount of nos.

Re: Preschool moms... class birthday parties?
The birthday party thing is hard. We are going to so many parties right now and these are kids my son will not even talk to after pre school because we live in a different school distirct then them. We also invited the entire class of pre -k ( 23 kids) plus neighborhood kids .

Re: Preschool moms... class birthday parties?
well, i think of it like this... i normally like to treat my kids to outings... so if the party is at say chuck e cheeses i would be spending the money anyway... plus, he gets to hang out with friends and not just me and his brothers... so although it can get expensive i usually do about 25 - 30.
