Presendtial election aside, educate me on the local Nassau county elections.

I'm new to Long Island, so I wanted to get others opinions on the local electins.
The only one I am aware of right now is the 8th district State Senate race between State Sen. Charles Fuschillo (perublican) and Carol Gordon (Democrat).

So pelase enligthen me.

Jack Martin (Republican) is running against Carolyn McCarthy (Democrat) for Congress.

I am voting for Martin because of his stance against the 3rd track expansion plans for the LIRR. As a nassau resident who lives in one of the towns greatly affected by this plan, it is the most important issue (for me) in this congressional election. McCarthy has not taken a sufficient stand on the issue in my opinion. I'm meeting her on Wednesday and will ask her exactly what she plans to do regarding the proposed expansion - but right now my vote is with Martin.

eta - I can't believe I wrote that his first name is Rick - it's Jack. . . maybe I was thinking of the singer? sorry!
