Pretty strong cramping at 17/18 weeks? UPDATED in 1st post

I have been having pretty strong cramping for almost 2 hours now. It is not like my usual cramps because they not stopped for 2 hours! Usually whatever cramping or strecting I get lasts only a minute or 2 each and come and go. I spoke to a friend wo said it might be growing pains, but I called my dr. to be safe and they want me to come in at 10! I was hoping they would tell me it is normal.
This is my first pregnancy so I don't know which feelings are normal. Did anyone at 17/18 weeks have a pretty strong cramp that is constant?

Update:
Well, I am glad I trusted my gut and went. The dr. thinks I was either having contractions Chat Icon or I was severely dehydrated (I know I wasn't, I actually drink way above the reccommended amout of water). I had a sono and my cervix was shorter than he would have liked it to be, but not dangerously short. So now I have to take it easy, stay off my feet as much as possible, and go back in a few days for another sono to check my cervix length. If it happens again I am to call the office right away. I have felt great ever since 9:30 am when it stopped.

On top of that, the sono tech saw a cyst on the baby. The dr. assured me that it was harmless and would go away on its own, and especially since all of my blood tests came back excellent he said I should not worry at all.... but I cannot help but worry. Because of this I have to go for a level 2 u/s at the hospital with specialists and be monitored with sonos until it goes away.

One good thing came out of the appointment though... we found out the sex!

WE ARE HAVING A Chat Icon !!!
The tech said she was sure it was a boy, but I am going to make them confirm next week at my sono before I start shopping Chat Icon

I am going to scan the sono pics and add them to my album later.

Re: Pretty strong cramping at 17/18 weeks?

is it like a dull achey cramp? or back and lower abdomen cramping? I believe at this stage, the round ligament pain kicks in. Are you spotting?

It's a good idea to go to the dr. if you feel it is right. I wish you luck!Chat Icon

It is the whole front of my stomach, it feel hard and feels like a leg charley horse type pain in my stomach, and then sharper pains are shooting down "there".
It has pretty mnuch stopped now, but lasted about 2.25 hours.

Re: Pretty strong cramping at 17/18 weeks?

I did have it around that time, perhaps a week or two earlier - it was just round ligament pains that unfortunately, according to my doctor, are often worse on smaller people.

That said, you absolutely did the right thing by calling your doctor Chat Icon

Thanks this made me feel better. I just have no idea what to expect!
I am leaving now so hopefully they will tell me that it is just growing pain or round ligament pain.Chat Icon

Sounds like round ligament pains. I had the same cramping at around 18 weeks and ran to the doctor in a panic. Chat Icon

Yup, that's it!! it's the WORST!

Def still go to the doctor just for your sanity! and take some Tylenol if you need to.

Good luck!Chat Icon
