pricing IVF question
My RE gave me a price that with everything should be 6-7000 for IVF. But, just to kind of shop around I called a few other places and they quoted me at 10,000-15,000. Do you think its because the other places are part of a hospital? I just want to make sure since its so much lower I am getting the proper care.

Re: pricing IVF question
Is that before meds? It sounds low. It can go up for things like ICIS (sp?) and PGD. I've heard about $8000-$10000 before meds.

Re: pricing IVF question
That sounds low. My RE said the IVF would run us close to almost $12K. With the grant money our out of pocket cost would be $6K.

Info please!! That's like IVF at Walmart prices. (not that it's bad or anything)
Was it mini IVF?

Re: pricing IVF question
Sounds low to me, too.
I'm paying entirely OOP and I believe mine will run about $14k with meds...though I don't like to do the math in my head that often in case it actually comes out higher.

Re: pricing IVF question
Nope its for conventional IVF. I go to Dr. Karpenko. It is in the city but, if it saves you some money for us that are paying OOP. Here is there website. http://www.newayfertility.com/financials/

Re: pricing IVF question
VERY low.
Just the work up & two IUIs cost me $5K. I then went through another insurance cycle.
I know I spent another $5K fully (my insurance max) for IVF & then had at least another $1.5K in health care spending $ before I spent maybe $4K OOP. All my meds were covered & I owed hundreds for the copays.
I did not go to a hospital.
I just looked at the website. It's a little odd (all the different types of IVF: natural, mild, etc.). I wonder about the success rates of the different methods.
BUT, for conventional IVF, the flat fee is $4500, Anesthesia $500, Meds $2500-$5000 (I'd bet $5000 based on MY meds for 1 cycle & I responded well). Total cost: $10,000, which is still cheap, but not quite $5K.

I've seen her before- she did one of my retrievals and transfers. She used to be a part of AFS and that's who Dr. B used in 2010.
Is she all by herself now? Or is Dr. Vidali with her?

Its her and dr. Vidali. I like them because they don't push you into taking meds if they do not think its necessary. Whats the deal with the meds. I looked at my insurance and most of them are covered. Of course not in full but, still a fair amount. Do they stop covering if you use them often.

Re: pricing IVF question
Just my opinion but I would not use a place like that (that is not reputable and has no statistics)....
For about 2K more there are many other places that are more experienced and have much bigger success....
Their price is very low...too low for NYC.....

Re: pricing IVF question
My insurance gets charged 6K for every IVF cycle. If I were to self pay it would be 10K. Because my RE is a Center of Excellence, they have a negotiated rate with Empire.

Makes sense but, I don't think I can afford more. Or if I did I would only be able to do it once and if it didn't work I think that would be it.

are they no longer with AFS? Karpenko did my retrieval at AFS in 2010. no complaints although she wasnt exactly warm and fuzzy. but we retrieved 18 eggs, all mature and fertilized so i have no complaints about her specifically.
as far as meds, some plans have limits on how many refills or how much you can use per month. for example, i needed vivelle patches for my cycle, i was on 2 every other day. my insurance only covered a total of something like 12 patches a month even though the dr. told them i needed about 30 a month. so it really depends on your plan.

normally i would agree with this but since karpenko and vidali are known doctors who have been practicing in NY for years, i wouldnt consider it the most risky.
