Private Kindergarten or Transition class
Ok, which one would you try to do?
Since Connor misses the Kindergarten cutoff he's going to have to go to the Transition class at the Preschool he currently goes to. But I just found out that, that class that it's required for him to go 5 days a week! I did not know this and I can't afford this. He currently goes 3 days a week, for 5 days the price goes up A LOT! So, now these are our only options. Go to the Transition class or try to enroll him in a more affordable Private Kindergarten class at a Christian or Catholic school? The monthly difference will almost be $300.00. If I have to pay for 5 days, I would rather him go to Kindergarten than paying for a Transition class for no reason and costs more money. WDYT? Thanks!

Re: Private Kindergarten or Transition class
I would send him to the K class if he is ready. And if the private/Catholic school accepts him because his birthday is after the cut-off date. My DS just finished K in a Catholic school, and 1) they follow the same cut-off date as the public school district and they are pretty strict, and 2) the tuition was not all that much higher than I was paying for pre-K that was only 1/2 days!! (his K is full day).

Re: Private Kindergarten or Transition class
Well, here in NC most of the private schools use the older cutoff date which was 10/15. They only changed the date last year. So he would be able to go next year. And surprisingly their tuition for FT is only $5,500 a year in Catholic school and the Christian schools around here for Kindergarten. Then after that he'd probably would have to go to public school because I couldn't afford the tuition prices!

Re: Private Kindergarten or Transition class
The Private Kindergarten sounds like a better option but what is going to happen next Fall with 1st grade? He will miss the cutoff there too, no? My DS has a friend who missed the cutoff here by 2 weeks and his Mom felt he was ready for school and she sent him to a Montessori Kindergarten program. She fought the school district to enroll him in 1st grade and they wouldn't do it. It was a shame bc she thought she was doing the best thing for him by sending him to the Montessori K. But that's here, and he was a couple weeks past the cutoff. Not sure how flexible they are by you or what knowledge he would need to be put into the next grade.

The cutoff date here I believe is strictly for students entering Kindergarten. I asked in another post about him going into 1st grade right after a private Kindergarten and they said he would be able to go. All I see from everything here is that the cutoff is to start Kindergarten. I hope I'm right?

Re: Private Kindergarten or Transition class
Check with your local school district to be sure. I don't think it was clear on your other thread about how the private K cutoff is different from the public one where you live so the answers may not be accurate. Regardless of grade, I would think the SD will go by the child's date of birth. But I'm not sure, since it's another state, it can be different rules.
