Probiotics question
Has anyone used Probiotics on the DCs just to maintain a healthy gut but not necessarily because of antibiotics.
I read that Probiotics can help with fussy colicky babies. My DS is so uncomfy during and after a feed. Not sure if its acid or gas.
Whats funny is that this kid gave me such indigestion during pregnancy no wonder why he is like this. I should have known. Hehe
I just feel bad for him because he seems like he is in so much pain.

Re: Probiotics question
Yup. I give them to DD for no other reason than for a healthy digestive system

What age did you start them and did you find that it worked.

Re: Probiotics question
I probably didn't start them soon enough.
I *think* I started them around 10 months...maybe? I really don't remember.
But I will be starting them MUCH earlier with DC#2

Re: Probiotics question
I started my daughter on them at around 2 weeks of age. I had a lot of antibiotoics during my labor and it basically wiped out her GI track of any good bacterial flora. It was horrible. She was SUPPER fussy, cranky and bloated. 24 hours after starting the probiotics she was a different baby!!
I still have her on them to help maintain a healthy GI tracks and they actually help boost immunity!

Im going to call DS' GI doc to ask about them. But he has a milk allergy so Im not sure he can take them. It says it has lactose in them.
I didnt have antibiotics in me. Only when they were doing the Csection. Im sure it didnt get to him yet. I just feel as though why not try them. I hate seeing this kid like this. If it doesnt work then I guess we just wait out his painful stomach problems. It will end, but I feel bad for him. And I guess I kinda feel bad for me. It give me such anxiety not knowing if something is wrong with my fuss fuss pot.

they do make some brands that are lactose free.search online. I'll be honest a lot of GI Dr.s don't know much about probiotics......If you got antibiotics BEFORE the c-secion took place then he was affected.. it takes just a few minutes for the baby to get them
Hope he feels better

Re: Probiotics question

I actually have a medical backround so I felt comfortable giving it to her. I did mention it to my ped and our GI specialist at Yale and they basically shrugged and said it couldn't hurt but they didn't really think it would help.
On our follow up visit at Yale I mentioned to the GI specialist what an AMAZING Transformation we had when she was started on it and he was really interested. So inerested he called me that night to get more info on what I used, how often etc and he said he was going to start his daughter on it and do more research and start reccomending it to his patients.
The problem is that Dr.s don't receive ANY training on alternative treatments when they are in med school so they don't know much about this stuff!
FM me if you have more questions!

Re: Probiotics question
my ds had a bad reaction to a medicine and we were adviced to give probiotics. walgreens sells one that are for children that are lactose free and gluten free. i put it in his bottle and he was fine. both my pediatricians recommended it.

Re: Probiotics question
Andrew has bad stomach issues. He gets very "backed" up. I started him on Kid Essentials by Boost and they have helped beyond belief. He gets one a day. I know your DS is too young for it but I am all for Probiotics.

Re: Probiotics question
my Ped is a huge fan of using probiotics. she told me to when DD was a very fussy colicky baby. it helped a little. she really had reflux issues too though. i still give them to her especially if she is on any antibiotics.
