Problem with my computer..anyone know what this could be??

Has anyone ever had this happened?

For the past 2 days, I turn on the comp, it starts up fine. When I am in the middle of something, the screen just goes black and I cant see anything. The hard drive doesnt shut off and it doesnt shut down. Then I have to manually press the on/off button and start all over again. The first couple of tries, it doesnt start up correctly, by the third time usually, it works fine.

I scanned for viruses, nothing is coming up. Does anyone know what this can be? A virus? My monitor? I never had anything like this happen before. TIA.

it could be a power saving option turned on. if you are not actively using it sometimes it will put the machine into a "deep sleep" go to that settings and switch it to not put the hard drive to sleep/shut down.

if you hare using the computer and it shuts down then I would say it might be a power supply/source issue. That will have to be looked at by a technician and it might be cheaper to replace the computer.

does it feel hot? maybe its overheating?

This happened with my old Mac. It wound up to be a problem with the motherboard.

I went through this multiple times with my laptop Finally, Gateway figured out it was an issue with the motherboard & the CPU I believe.
