PROMPT Therapy
Has anyone ever used this? DS is 4 and PDD/NOS. He has gained a lot of words from his ABA therapy, but we feel like he should be getting more. I'm not sure if PROMPT is right for him, but I was going to schedule an evaluation. The price tag is huge, but if it can help him use his words then it will be worth it.

PROMPT Therapy
I'm not an SLP but I think that PROMPT does not work for all kids. All the kids that I know that receive PROMPT services have some sort of mouth issue, as they can't form the correct shapes to say the letters. PROMPT is very hands on with molding the mouth and such. I would ask your therapist if they think it's appropriate.

Re: PROMPT Therapy
Thank you for the responses. Now my hope is that my insurance covers some of the $450 initial evaluation fee. Yikes!

Re: PROMPT Therapy
Donna Lederman in Commack. I got good feedback off of the Nassau/Suffolk Chapter of the American Autism Society message board. I wish someone would take insurance.
Any suggestions for good PROMPT therapists are greatly appreciated.

Re: PROMPT Therapy
Last year we took DS to a mommy and me social skills class at Little Angels in Blue Point (I'm not sure where you live). It was a group led by an outstanding SLP. I believe she is PROMPT trained. I know they have therapists there that are and they take insurance.

Re: PROMPT Therapy
We just started at Donna Lederman 3 weeks ago and are working with Stephanie. So far we really like her. My insurance will pay 80% of the allowable amount which is about $96 per session. My ds has low muscle tone and feeding issues so she working on jaw stability and tongue movement. He talks but is very difficult to understand.

Re: PROMPT Therapy
I'm an SLP and really like prompt. Just make sure it's something your lo can tolerate. If they will freak out with someone touching their face it is def not the way to go. Also it's usually used as a pp said to fix articulation difficulties and or help the child shape sounds they don't have. If that is your child I say go for it
