Property tax grievence
***Please dont move***
I want to file my own property tax grievence. Has anyone done it on their own and had success? I'm in Nassau county if that helps.
I have my appraisal from when I closed almost 2 years ago, and I can get the comps too. Anything else?
Shed some light please. I have until March 1st to do this.

Re: Property tax grievence
yes i do this myself every year. look up arow nassau county (something like that) thats the site you use to look up your property and challenge your assessment. You will use their data base to look up comps in the area, you can select a few and based on the comps you select, a number of your new proposed assessment value will come up, then you just fill out the application (i think you have to create an account first) then submit. I get something from the assessment office months later with a new proposed value. Even if its not much, i just sign it and accept it. As long as I don't have to pay hundreds or thousands to a tax grievance company.

Property tax grievence
You can do it yourself it is easy. Keep in mind that most properties are under assessed for tax purposes compared to appraisal value. Before filing your grievance find out what the grounds were for the price increase- usually the assessor will site improvements to the house, etc. You can use this information in your grievance for example in my appraisal it stated I had renovated my kitchen- so I had provide a writen explanation and photographs.
